This. Anything else is a joke.

Actually, he should probably return more than Nash, as Nash had painted the BJ's into a corner and reduced the return somewhat.

He is one of the most unique players in the league.

If he can hone his defensive game and become a little more mean, he is a Norris winner and close to a generational talent. I know that is a grandiose claim, but when you have a player that is as big, as offensively dynamic as him at defense, you are talking about a really special player. He still has some work to do to get to that point but I think he can.

So, safe to say his value is very very high.

Last year early on I would have not pegged Buffs value as that high, he seemed to be out of shape and always made bad decisions at the other teams end that resulted on odd man rushes.Thankfully as the year went along he seemed to get better defensively. also I learned allot about advanced stats which helped me understand his value better. then he got injured (from the Bertuzzi low bridge) and I realized how much we missed him.

This year he showed up fitter and started off the year great. seeing him miss games and realizing how impactful he is to our team I would place his value at extremely high to "us". has anyone noticed how magically our forwards seem to be more dangerous and effective when Buff is playing vs when he is not? the Wheeler's and Kane's of the world seem to have a bit more room and get more quality chances.

Buff is the engine that drives our forwards and gives them space and opprotunity

Now two years from now if Bogosian progresses and is a number 1 PP unit two way defensman who is cut loose to rush the puck more....Postma grows into a strong offensive defensman (2nd unit PP) and Trouba fills the shut down defender roll with PP capabilities Buff may become expendable but until then he is the man.

I have come full circle on his value to us.

Nash also had an ugly contract.

Screw value, let's just, ya know, not trade him? He's one step below Norris calibre guys. If he ever takes that next step...

His value ? Until Chuck Norris learns to skate, Buff has no equal.

Few things:

1.) Chuck Norris doesn't need to know how to skate. The ice needs to know how to Chuck Norris.

2.) I could be tempted if there was a very large plus attached to Sidney Crosby.

3.) Norris---Chuck Norris. Coincidence? I think not.

Terrible trade. Kyle Quincey fetched a first rounder. The above trade would the definition of a robbery.

I would cry tears of urine if that happened.

Never. Buff should retire a Jet, many years down the road.

I know it's unlikely in today's NHL, but I would love to see the guy put in a decade of solid work here.

Byfugliens value? probably about half of what jets fans would think. Hard to analyze the ATL CHI deal with all the other parts involved, but I would say maybe a mid first rounder.

Uhm... No.
Gaustad was traded for a mid first rounder.
Perhaps jets fan over valued buff, but that's a ridiculous under value.

Just checkout your previous 4 posts, they're all absurdly negative/detached from reality, so I'll just disregard your comment.

Every all star player in their prime is worth way more than a mid 1st round pick, especially when they are on a budget friendly contract.

Buff is clearly worth far more than a 1st rounder

Personally, I think a Buff for Schenn's trade would make alot of sense. That assumes we think Bogo will be able to up his offensive game. I have no trouble making that assumption.

Possible but I wouldn't bank on it... since so far Jets' do offensively better Enstrom-Byfuglien than they have with Enstrom-Bogosian...

Plus, having someone else just as good or better doesn't diminish either's value.

Are you proposing Buff for the Brother's Schenn? Surely not just one Schenn.

I could see some merit to a deal like that. I like Braydon, but I like slagging on Luke even more. I don't want that fun to end.

This. The Winnipeg defensive coaching staff deserve a lot of credit. Last year, 10 games into the season, many people on this board (me included) wanted to trade Buff for a bag of pucks. The 2013 version of Byfuglien is "new and improved", much superior to the previous season's model. Now if the defensive coaches can only work their magic on Clitsome.

I wouldn't trade Buff for just about anything in the league. He is one of the most unique players in the entire NHL. He might have the odd brain fart but the guy can take over games. Look at how the Jets play with and without him it's like watching two completely different teams. He is the proverbial "straw that stirs the drink" for us he makes our offence go. If he can keep playing defensively like he has so far this season I don't know what more we could ask from the guy.
