Montreal - New Jersey

get Volch

get Diaz

With the return of Subban Diaz is expendable and with Volch, the Habs would get a hard nosed stay at home defensman.

Any thoughts?

wouldn't having Volchenkov and Emelin be a little redundant. also, what's his cap hit? Diaz is cheap and Tinordi might be ready next year.

I know the Habs are desperate to get bigger and stronger but I can't see them doing this

I'm not taking a downer on Volch either, he's playing his best hockey this year since signing with us

What's a downer?

Diaz has a $1.225M contract for this year and next. He's also got 9 points in 11 games while playing almost 20 minutes a night (and his ice-time as actually increased since Subban returned to well over 20).

I would not do this based on contract alone.

Ya, I can't see us fitting Volch's contract in our cap structure.

This wouldn't be a hockey trade.

Tallinder is the odd man out anyway. The Devils can't afford to become an even softer team on the back-end. Volch is still an elite PKer etc even if he's overpaid by a million.

You think Volchenkov is better than Diaz?

You could make our team bigger and physically stronger, but Diaz is better in almost every other aspect of hockey. And 1/4 of the price.

Don't the Habs want to become a bigger/stronger team? And isn't Diaz paired with Markov?

Volchenkov's physical play is needed on our blueline but his contract is just beyond horrible and when he has the puck, there's a turnover that will happen in the next couple of seconds.

With that said, I'd take this deal and run. It would free up a big chunk of cap space for a pending trade around the deadline to bolster our 1st line cause our 2nd unit is cliking on all cylinders atm.

We need a left winger to play with Zajac and Kovy, despite the performances that Matteau has given us thus far, wich is pretty solid when talking about a 18 year old rookie.

I think habs want to be tougher. Not acquire another russian defense who hits like a truck and fights like a girl.

Don't get me wrong, if Diaz were to fight, it would be like a girl, too.

You'd mess with what this team is doing right now? I'm not saying it's all because of Volch but his PK minutes allow Greene, Larsson, etc to not have to wear their bodies out and play more offensive minutes. And he's been really good about turnovers since the first Pens game.

I know we'll never agree but I would trade him in the right deal. This isn't it.

Just for the opportunity to have Volchenkov and Emelin together, I support this trade! That pairing would be intense.
