somehow though, i always feel a little disappointed with him. he seems like a good guy, good team guy etc.
It just seems like he could be so much more, and he seems to be a guy who would have the right attitude to get there.

so, what's with Greening? (and no i wouldnt trade him for clowe, stay away from patchwork fixes, make whatever deals for elite top line talent winger and/or top pairing defenceman. nothing else)
This is well said. I think it's because he doesn't score enough & when ppl see him in the top 6 they immediately think he should be putting the puck in the net with regularity. But I keep saying that's not what he is paid to do or expected to do. He is doing exactly what they expect him to do & when he scores it's a bonus. They expect him to hit, finish his checks, dig pucks out of the corner & stand in front of the net & he does all that. Would it be great if he scored more, yes but he is doing what is expected right now.

Case in point: Regin passes the puck out of the corner to Neil & he scores. Ppl immediately come on here & praise Regin. Greening makes exactly the same pass to Neil in the same game, Neil shoots it on net but it doesn't go in. Then I am reading on here how Greening doesn't do enough & should be traded. If Greening's pass would have gone in instead of Regins, we would be reading about trading Regin.

If Greening was scoring more he'd be paid more as it stands he did get 37 pts last yr & made the allstar game, still not bad. Offensive expectations for a defensive forward need to be restrained I think.

Aragorn, do you actually think Greening made the all star team?

Once again everything has to be spelled out ... he made the all rookie team which is part of the allstar weekend. Isn't that still a decent accomplishment for a rookie even though he is older than most that were there? He also came in second to the fastest or one of the fastest players at the allstar game & in the NHL ... is that not an accomplishment? He was there it's an accomplishment as a Senator player, shouldn't we be praising him for that? Cripes if Spezza was there, there would be a hundred appreciation threads.

Spezza was there. as a real all star. Cripes Patrick Eaves has represented the Sens in that capacity before. It's a nice recognition buts it's completely irrelevant.

Contrary to the first post in that thread Brassard has not been pushed out of the center position. He was playing there yesterday and has produced this year. His future with the club is uncertain and has been for a while. Been through a lot of crap with that franchise so far and had his growth hampered as a result.

He becomes an RFA next year. Worth a look but I don't get the feeling they're in a rush to part with him just yet if they can get nothing of real value in return. Do we actually have anything expendable of value to them at present? We have no established wingers or centers available, no way they get our first at this stage and a second won't do it. It may be hard to swing a palatable deal on both sides.

That is a very unfortunate deal for Columbus.

Most of the games I've seen CBJ play, Brassard's been primarily on the wing. He's looked pretty good IMO. Depending on the asking price, I'd be interested.

Is that normal to have so many teams interested? Do you create that kind of interest if you suck donkey balls? Wait...ignore that turn of phrase.

I'd do that deal without even needing the 2nd rounder thrown in. And we'd still be getting the better end of that deal.

Seto would be so perfect in our system. Hell he scored 19 goals last year on a not so good Minny team.

Hes at low value right now, and I think he could score 25 a year in our system and possibly be a core piece. Good reclamation project especially since our rebuild isn't over.

Brassard or Setoguichi would be sweet. At least they are still young enough to fit into our rebuild. Not liek that Geezer Weiss.

I have a small concern that most of our better skilled players are righties. Seto's another rightie (and a huge diver, as if the refs don't hate us enough). Getting a left shoting playmaker is going to be a must at some point. If we acquired Seto I'd guess Silf would have to play the left side and Michalek wouldn't have another crack at moving to the right again.

Brassard is a legitimate 2nd line centre in this league one one of Columbus's only playmakers.

They have goalie prospects up the wazoo but no legit starter - forget Bishop. I highly doubt that what we have to offer will be attractive to CBJ without an overpayment on our part.

CBJ wont, and shouldn't move a young player that is actually good. Now players like Umberger, Wiz, Prospal, etc. is a whole different scenario
