Buf - Det

Regehr + Stafford

for

Filppula + Quincey + Miller + 3rd

Let me start by asking if Regehr can play the right side or has he in the past.

Regehr is a top 4 upcoming UFA while Filppula is a top 6 upcoming UFA.

Stafford is a right handed top six signed for two more years at 4 mill. Quincey can play a top 4 role and is signed for one more year at 3.775. Miller is a UFA but I would guess he would sign cheap to play with his brother. The third could even be changed for a prospect if that is more interesting.

Reason I would think about it for the Wings would be Regehr could be the shutdown guy to play with Kronwall and Stafford would be a right handed shooter to play with Datsyuk.

Looking to see if this would be close to fair value or is it completely off. Thoughts.

Severe overpayment by Detroit.. and this is an insult to Filppula.

EDIT: Filppula is not leaving Detroit.

Has Regehr and Staffords games regressed that much. I will fully admit I haven't had a chance to watch them this year.

Regehr has lost a couple steps and the ability to hit people. Staff is just streaky, and imo, has become a victim of Ruffs line mismanagement. He's yet to find his scoring touch, but he will. I wanna see him on a line w Ennis and Grigs behind Ott-Gerbe-Foligno. Still as for the OP, Buffalo takes it and runs. I could def see some kinda Staff for Flip deal going down, but not this lopsided. Id like us to keep Staff though, guy has all the talent in the world.

Deal, lets get the phones buzzing and resign Filp immediately after for hopefully something similar to what we're giving away in stafford.

Wow. Seems pretty overwhelming so far that the value isn't close. I guess that's what I get for going off the past and not following their progress this year. I recalled a few threads in the off season and they both seemed to have a ton a value with Buf fans.

Just for the hell of it what type of package do you think would be fair value.

Stafford has been awful. But he could likely use a change

I love regehr, but hes clearly lost a step. But he does gave a full NTC

While Id like to think uniting the Miller's would help Ryan Im not gonna buy into that voodoo, so honestly Miller and the 3rd dont interest me too much. We have lots of Miller-like guys to fill a bottom 6 with. I've always been much more intrigued with Detroit system these past few years. Guys like Jurco, Sheahan, Jankrok etc.

To me if this is a Deadline deal Detroit has no reason to move Flip for stafford...if its not a deadline deal theres no reason to move anyone to obtain Robyn...

From a Buffalo perspective id take it and run but from a DET perspective I dont see why they do this? Even if going for a cup run Flip is better than Drew and Quincey is likely better than Robyn at this point so youre not really upgrading anywhere...

If you were moving out prospects like I mentioned above it might make more "hockey sense"

I'd probably do it but I don't know why Detroit should. Regehr's good but he's a UFA this summer. It won't happen regardless. Regehr's got a NMC and he won't be asked to waive it. He's also played the left side pretty much his whole career. I can't remember ever seeing him on the right side and he definitely hasn't been there in Buffalo over the last two years.

I really don't like Quincey too much right now. Filppula is a nice piece but we'd have to worry about re-signing him. Miller could be a decent bottom-six'er for us and he has the brother connection. I'm all for giving Stafford a change of scenery. I've grown far too tired of him.

Detroit's need is on defense and this only brings in a defenseman that might only be there for the rest of the season. Wings are looking for a player signed past this year IMO. Anyway, Regehr's not practical. He should be left out of proposals unless he is asked if he wants to be traded to a contender if we're out of it. Even then I don't see it happening. I see us re-signing him. Ruff likes him a lot and views him as our best defenseman right now so couple that with the NMC and unwillingness to leave Buffalo and he's not on the table.

I mean, the Sabres take this deal and run, leaving a note behind saying no take backs

But a Stafford for Filppula trade has been discussed by the fanbases for well over a year, no?

I'd give Cleary and Samuelsson away for a bag of pucks... And they can keep the pucks.

Unfortunately, as bad as Quincey is, we kind of need him.
