Seems to me this thread is based on nothing but 'rumours'. Firstly, unless you are the one in the trenches and involved in league discussions its probably best to keep your gossip to yourself. Secondly, the EOJHL and Jr B in general have come a long way from the 'beer league' image of the past. That is largely due to the commitment and efforts of people who want to see it grow and thrive as a quality league for developing young players. Everyone has put forth ideas and options of ways to do that not just Mr. McRostie. You have just chosen to attack him based on "gossip".
Like all organizations not everyone agrees on how things should be run and the EOJHL, CCHL GOJHL are no different. Sadly, people (on boards like this) take little bits of information and turn it into gossip and then spread it like crap over a corn field. If you want to do something constructive with these discussions get the facts first and try to be intelligently objective - or in plain english "look at the bigger picture".
There is no reason why any junior league shouldn't continuously work to improve the hockey experience for players and fans. The majority of the JrB teams have evolved from community based, volunteer run organizations to privately owned businesses. That alone can create some issues with basic survival, but the teams know the end result is to maintain a good level of Junior hockey and work together to achieve that. Most people have no idea what's involved in running a team, let alone a league, but they have plenty to say on here. It's a huge challenge year after year to meet the needs of every team.
The bottom line is players who come through the Junior B leagues are heading in all different directions. Some have aspirations of going on to higher levels and some just want to play at a quality level while they finish college/university staying relatively close to home. Whatever their reasons, Jr B teams have a continuous battle with trying to adapt their teams, sustain financial viability and support growth in the league, while still taking into account the needs of all young players and their hockey experience.
I say good on some people in the EOJHL for realizing they need to work toward the long-term future of the league. They don't have time for childish mud slinging on chat boards
Clearly you have taken this personally and being as it is your first post you are more than likely involved heavily with the league. The entire point of this board is for people to share so called 'gossip' that they hear. Which more often than not has some truth to it and often comes true. If you do not like what is being said then maybe you should not read it...
The Rideau-St Lawrence President sitting upstairs at the Gananoque Showcase taking loud enough that myself and two other people sitting with me can over hear him talking to a rep from Akwesasne about a player who just happens to walk behind him and he said " he is not that good and no one wants him because he is a problem in the dressing room".
First he is the one spreading rumours about a player he knows nothing about.
The Akwesasne rep looked at the player and her jaw dropped the player just walked away and asked someone who is that man.
People like this are the reason this league is going down hill time to get some fresh blood and new ideas not fossil fuel and dinosaur ideas.
Metcalfe, down to their last breath as it relates to hopes for a post season, came into Perth this afternoon and played a complete game and won 4-0....Goalie Drouin played a great game stopping 36 shots and the Jets offence got the job done peppering the Perth net-minder with 47....
Obviously Metcalfe was more motivated in this one but I was surprised by the lack of discipline from the Blue Wings....maybe not used to getting shut out?...Lots of lumber and head shots
Metcalfe with four games left needs to win them all to be sure of a play off spot.....could back in with one loss only if OW loses both their last two games (one against the Jets)....
Renfrew all but wraped up a playoff spot last night beating Arnprior 5-0...both sides had their full squads. Arnprior, Stittsville and Almonte all in the mix for the last two spots. Big game for Arnprior and Stittsville on Wednesday night when they face off in the Prior....It is going to the wire....Metcalfe has a big part to play in the outcome in Valley, playing Stittsville twice.

Question is whether the games will matter or not for the Jets....We will know by Wednesday night
For those of your who missed the Prospect game in Stittsville, it was a great showcase for the young guns.....here is the story I wrote for the web site:
Prospect Game Lives Up To Billing - Metro 4, Valley 3 (SO)
Stittsville, ON, February 9, 2012 - Fans in Stittsville were treated to an exciting EOJHL Prospects game on Saturday as the Valley Division built a 3-0 lead over the young guns from the Metro Division during the first two periods. Close to 500 fans made their way to the Johnny Leroux Stittsville Community Centre to watch the best young talent from the Metro Valley conference show their skills. The annual event features first year players from each of the conference's ten teams.
Mr Leroux, for whom the arena was recently re-named, was on hand himself with other league and local dignitaries to proceed over the opening festivities and drop the ceremonial face off puck.
Fans who attended the game were treated to a fast paced, physical affair from the opening of the game. Both the Valley and Metro Prospects clearly came with the intention of putting their best foot forward in front of family, friends, and scouts looking over potential talent for next years top tier junior programs. The referees got a good workout keeping pace with the speed of the game and for the most part left their whistles in their pockets, only calling one minor penalty to each club.
The Metro Division found themselves on their heels and with a sizeable deficit to negotiate as the Valley Prospects made the best of their early opportunities while their net-minders shut the door. Terry Mallon, representing the Almonte Thunder started the Valley attack with a goal at the 15:18 mark of the opening frame, with Reid Murphy from the Arnprior Packers and Chris Ewbank of the Thunder picked up the assists.
The Valley young stars continued to score in the second period as another Almonte skater, Garrett Nicholl, and Mike DiBello of the Stittsville Royals both found the back of the net and gave the Valley a 3-0 cushion entering the third stanza. Corey Chaplin, from the Packers, Austin Lamont from the Perth Blue Wings, and Patrick McGrath from the Renfrew Timberwolves were credited with assists.
Cue the comeback. With conference bragging rights on the line, the Metro Prospects continued to pressure the Valley and were finally reward mid way through the third period when Matt Connolly of the Ottawa West Golden Knights scored at 12:10 with helpers from Junior Canadian Mitch Robertson and Clarence Castor Brett Faber. Three representatives from the Metcalfe Jets, playing on a line together, kept the momentum going and combined on Metro's second goal just two minutes later at 14:32 when Devon Docksteader jammed home feeds from Thomas Mansbridge and Derek Varrin. Still rolling, Metro's Faber fired the tying goal at 17:28 to tie the game and send it to overtime. Robertson and Connolly were awarded the assists on the play.
After five minutes of four on four hockey was unable to produce a winner, the teams selected their players for the shoot out. Of six shooters, only one found the mark. With Metro's second shot, Max Veronneau of the Ottawa Canadians finished off a nice deke to complete the come-back secure the 4-3 win for his Division.
Six different goalies saw action in the game, each taking a period for their respective divisions. Jean-Phillippe Giroux (Gatineau), Gianmarco De Meis (Clarence), and JJ Pristanski (Ottawa West) suited up for the Metro Division, while the Valley puck stoppers were Arun Kumar (Stittsville), Nicholas Hodgins (Renfrew), and Danick Boisvert (Shawville).
Arnprior needed a big win, had a 3-1 and then Stittsville came back hard and skated away with a 5-3 victory. Makes the Valley race even tighter but Arnprior and Almonte can still control their own fate Arnprior needs to fine a solution soon because if they make it in the playoffs, chancing of them going deep with the two coaches they have will be impossible...the only time it is too late to change is when the season is over....and if it is not done sooner, there will be no later......
The playoff hopes for Metcalfe were doused last night as Clarence mailed it in in a nothing game for them (only mustered 15 shots) loosing 3-1 to Ottawa West...
Home and home against Stittsville this weekend for pride only
Let's hope Metcalfe doesn't mail it now. Sure would be nice to see it come down to the last games for Stittsville and Almonte seeing how they are only one point apart. Makes for good hockey.

The more learned about Clarence 's lack of effort in a game that gave OW a confirmed play off spot the more disappointing it is.....that's why the higher power gave us a long memory!
Great game in Metcalfe Friday night....Metcalfe pressed, and despite out shooting the Stittsville 32-24 the Royals prevailed 4-3....should be a great regular season finale in Stittsville Sunday afternoon

Can't leave it to other teams hands, Jets set their situation back on Jan.17 & 18th back to back game vs OWGN both loses the difference in making playoff
Arnprior beat Perth last night 7-4 to secure at least fourth place and more importantly a playoff spot. Battle is down to Stittsville and Almonte....Almonte's schedule shows that they have only one game left which is against Shawville tomorrow but the standings show they have two games left to play....does anyone have any idea as to who else they play against ?

Agreed - not blaming them for the Jets record - it is what it is - just don't mail in your effort in a league game = stinks like stilton cheese

I suspect that there had been a game scheduled on the last snowstorm with Shawville @ Almonte. In the results section of Pointstreak these two teams have only played 4 games with the 5th game scheduled on Sunday afternoon. A similar situation shows for Gatineau & Ottawa Canadians - 41 games played with no remaining games scheduled.
But, it is a long shot for the missing Almonte game being required. The need to play the missing game depends upon the results of the weekend games.
The maximum points Almonte could obtain is 38 so would need Stittsvile to obtain only 1 point in their last two games or, Arnprior lose their last game. If after the weekend, Almonte has 36 points and one of the other two teams has 38 points that would then necessitate the missing game. Almonte won the head to head series with Stittsville but were even with Arnprior.
If all three teams end up with 38 points then the league statistician has a nightmare to unravel for the final placements. Here's another thought, will Shawville want to play the missing game?
From what I understand the league rule is that the first tie breaker when teams are tied for pointes is number of wins by a team. Arnprior has 18 with 38 points, and Almonte has 34 points with 15 wins. Even if Almonte wins both remaining games and gets to 38 points they can only get to a max of 17 wins, so they cannot beat Arnprior out whether Arnprior wins or not. The only way for Almonte to make it now is for Stittsville to lose both remaining games and Almonte to win both of theirs but Arnprior is in for sure.

Reason: additonal info
With the Stittsville win and moving to 39 points means Almonte is now out, only thing to decide between Arnprior and Stittsville is who is third and who is fourth. I can't imagine that either team wants to play Perth in the first round so both should be going hard today to win their final game to get out of that last spot.
Casselman over Winchester in 5
Char- lan over Awkwesasne in 6
Gananoque over Westport in 6
Brockville over Athens in 7 (have to take one upset)
Does anyone know why Gan and Westport playing games 1,3,4,6 in Gan and 2,5,7 in Westport is this a typo or actual?
Reason Gan gets two home games in a row is because Westport will be missing Ming, Hincks, McNutt and maybe Terpak to a Queens grad trip.. This is another example of how Westport gets there way with things off the ice.. Bundy lied to Gan and told them he couldnt get ice on the tuesday night and let them have two home games in a row so those players will only miss games 3, 4 and 5 and be back in time for game 6 if it happens to make it that far.
