A second round draft pick would probably do the trick.

I'm sure NYI won't trade him until the deadline. With the short season, more teams than usual will be in the playoff hunt, so they'll be able to get a bidding war going for him.

I'm been saying it for a couple weeks now. We need a guy like Abdelkater. Good energy guy who will fight and chip in here and there.

Also agree. Whitney and Hamilton for Streit should do it.

I'm concerned about how many people here think that the Islanders could trade their captain for Whitney, considering how he's played the past two years.

Hemsky, MPS, and a pick for Ovi, with some cap going back to WAS?

Oh boy....

We should probably throw in Horcoff to make the cap dollars match up.

I doubt the Oilers management will be "aggressive" with their trades (if they make any).

I think if the last 3 years is any guide, they will make "safe" trades.. not giving up a lot and not getting a lot.

My guesses:

Franson (IIRC we've been interested for a bit)
MacArthur
Steckel

Maybe Komisarek for Whitney?

I'd be interested in Brown for the bottom-6

I think both are a part of their plans going forward.

I'd rather Kulemin than MacArthur but I'm not sure they'd be willing to deal him.

Komisarek is signed for one more season after this, and if we're replacing Whitney we need a puck mover.

Franson is a big RHD who is somewhat physical and IIRC has a good breakout and a big shot. His skills are somewhat replaced through Phanuef, Gardiner and soon to be Rielly.

How's Komi been playing? If he's his nasty self, a Fistric & Komisarek would be tough 3rd pairing.

This was my thought, more toughness, though I agree with OB's assessment as well.

It appears Steckel has not played in the games we've scouted.

Only $500K more then Whitney, only one more year, and brings something the team doesn't have alot of, but he's far from a "can't miss" pick up.

Hah..."cant miss." That reminds of the time we had 3 consecutive first overall picks.

I've honestly thought Franson would be a good pickup for the Oilers the last few years now.

Everyone kept saying he sucked though.

Of course there's always someone saying everyone sucks. I'm sure Malkin and Crosby for free would have someone coming up with a downside as well.

I think Franson would be a good fit. He's not a top tier guy but he shouldn't have a top tier pricetag either.

What would his cost be?

No Komisarek please. Franson would be good. I don't mind getting rid of Khabi or Whitney and some picks. I don't think we should give up significant assets for anything Toronto has to offer though.
