Eminger, 3rd, Noreau for Erskine

Yes - that is for a rental
We gotta give to get
They "owe us" one though for the Kundratek debacle
The Jagr deal is time barred by now - no?
This and next year is our real window
Maybe we would need to add some more
I would even add more on the level of the prospect
Andersson? MSC?

What do you think?
I think Sather is looking into going all in this year. And next.
We will see some prospects being moved that we will all dislike

Erskine giving Big George Parros a lesson yesterday
I was actually thinking the same thing, recently. If they're gonna sell off Erskine, I'd take him as a 6th defender. We desperately need a guy like that on this team.

Kreider - Miller - Callahan

Powe - Boyle - Asham/Haley (1way next year)

I am not saying Ryan is better then Gaborik.. I just want another power FW that has that goal scoring touch, whos younger and fits this teams mold more!
Bobby Ryan is not happening. Do you see the way he's been playing with Selanne and Koivu??? They're not breaking that line up. Anaheim is 8-2-1 and they're scoring like wildfire.

Petrecki has solid NHL potential. Big kid with good skating skills and a real mean streak, something difficult to find in this league. Torts would love him. I really hope they claim him.

to say Clowe wouldn't be above Pyatt in the linep is just an absurd statement.

I like Pyatt, a lot actually, but he is a 25-35 point player. Clowe gets 40/year and has approached 60.

The fact that half the league is looking for defensive depth and nobody claimed Petrecki speaks volumes of his upside, IMO.

Clowe would clearly play in our top-nine, likely often in the top-six.

Agreed...Clowe is a far better all around player than Pyatt. Better Skilled, better playmaker. And then there's the tough guy aspect. Clowe is one tough SOB. Rarely loses a scrap, and stands up for his teammates. Pyatt is a gamer that will fight only when there isn't much of an option.

Buyers and sellers should become clearer in the next few weeks. Sather will be buying. Florida would sure be interesting if they became a seller. Phoenix too.

The rest of it is cryptic, "a good component, probably a C", not sure what that means.
Over all, 3 of the other offers are much better than yours.
I have participated in threads --- several variations on a theme --- wherein Hawks were hot for Boyle, issue was what they would pay. My main target Olsen.

If memory serves about half would do 1 for 1 straight up, another chunk would consider depending upon the package, most considered thomas ok, several did not want.

Balance did not want BB

I can't speak definitively, but I think Olsen being sent down was not regression on his part, but to keep him with high minutes instead of lower pairing on D corp + team that is resurging.

Other variables not key pieces.

What is the fascination with Erskine? I don't see what separates him from a guy like Regehr. Regehr or Leopold are two guys that I'd love to add to this defense. Leopold is a pretty average defenseman, but doesn't make too many mistakes when he's on the ice and can play any role. Regehr will probably be much cheaper. He is an elite PKer and is famous for his physical confrontations with the Sedins and Hemsky. Tough as nails, our answer to Sauer going down.

REPLACING SAUER
Regehr or Leopold might be very good deadline additions. Totally agree with you.
Murray or Erskine otoh would be something we might be able to acquire a bit earlier. San Jose will have a log jam on D once Burns returns (nice rhyme to that) and will most likely be looking to move a D then. If Washington feels that they are out of it early. They might not wait until the deadline to start selling off pieces not part of the future plan.

Regarding an offensive defenseman, firstly we gotta really be sure we really need to address that primarily with our tradeable assets and that he would be able to fit into this system right away. Not that many UFA options available here and I do not see Sather taking on a long-term deal, unless itīs a steal.

Up front forward depth for POs is another matter. I think 1-2 UFA depth additions at the dealine will be considered here. And we will lose some pretty good assets. Sather thinks we got the goods NOW and is moving his chips forward with the hand he has got. Most likely UFAs, but not 100% sure

Far better based on what? Again, stats? I've watched him play plenty of times. He is not "far" better than what Pyatt offers. Not to mention Clowe has played on many more deep and offensively talented teams than Pyatt in his career. You look at all the other numbers, they are similar players. This year with Pyatt playing on a stronger offensive team here in NY than in PHO, he has 5 points. Clowe has guess what 5 points. Playing field is the same to me. Let's see how great those "playmaking" skills are compared to Pyatt's by year's end even though they play similar games. You said Clowe can put the puck in the net. He has 0 this year. Most teams are a quarter of the way through the season, but the season is still young.

What if the Rangers traded prospects for Nash rather than Dubi/Arty?

Plus, they decided to resign Fedotenko and Prust rather than pick up Pyatt/Halpern/Asham. This would most likely be the lineup the Rangers rolled out every night.

Hagelin - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan
Fedotenko - Boyle - Prust

basically, Dubi/AA/Feds/Prust/Boyle instead of Halpern/Asham/Powe/Miller/Pyatt

hmmmmm.... makes you wonder, would we be better off in the end letting some kids go for Rick and sticking with last year's team for the most part?

That's all dandy....except CBJ wanted roster players for the face of the franchise not prospects that might not pan out.

If they could have traded prospects instead of Dubi and Anisimov, don't you think they would have? Not sure what your point is.

Yup. And here are 2 other reasons why that lineup would never have happened:

1) The salary cap.

2) In order to keep Dubi and AA, that hypothetical package of prospects most definitely would have had to include one, if not both, of Hags and Kreider.

Exactly. I didn't even bother mentioning the salary cap issue because I figured that was common knowledge, but I guess not considering how this discussion started. But like you mentioned, the deal would've included probably both Hagelin and Kreider along with Erixon and the 1st round pick. I'd rather have the younger, cheaper, and more potential in Kreider and Hagelin. Also that combination has been more influential/productive than dubinsky/anisimov. Well, actually, I shouldn't say that because Kreider has not played that many games yet. In the long run (which I think will start this season) they will outproduce that combo. Dubinsky finally scored his first goal tonight.

I was okay with letting Fedotenko go, he got paid pretty well by Philly. Dubinsky was not worth his 4.2 million dollar cap hit. Anisimov is going to get paid as well after this season. I am still okay with the deal, although losing the 1st rounder hurts.

Trade Deadline 6th D-man

Despite some early struggles, I think the D (if healthy) looks fantastic, especially with the reemergence of staal and the solid play from Stralman. However, the three headed eminger-Bickel-Gilroy monster is just ugly!

Who will be our number 6?!

My thoughts on some realistic and affordable options. These trades would have us sending 2nd or 3rd round picks and/or prospects.

1. Hainsey: I'm not sure if we can afford him, (salary cap) but if we can, he is a smooth skater and can move the puck very well.

2. John Erskine: If the caps keep falling maybe they will be willing to part with him (not sure how he is playing this year but in years past he has been a great physcial presence and makes a solid first pass).

3. Chis Butler: Haven't watched him play this year, but with Buffalo he was a pretty reliabile young d-man.

4. Ryan Whitney: Looks like he wants out of Edmonton. Not sure if we would be able to fit him under the cap, but I think playing for a contender could rejuvenate his play. He has been awful this year; I can see the value he would bring to a 3rd pairing but he may end up in the torts dog-house too.

Would you pay for these guys and what would be your price? Who else is available?

For the record, I hope J.T. Miller sticks, and if he does I think we should absolutely keep Boyle because forward depth will always be extremely important, and Boyle has been consitent in the past and was very reliable in the playoffs.

Whitney isn't the same player he was in Pittsburgh. The multiple foot injuries have taken their toll on him. Jagr went around Whitney last week like he was the 1993 Jagr.

Yeah, Whitney's play has taken a nose-dive. He might be alright as a PP specialist, but if you're relying on him to play big minutes, he's not the way to go. Murray is on my shortlist for a deadline rental, as is Mark Streit and possibly Vishnovsky depending on how that situation plays out. Not crazy about Erskine. Guy isn't terribly quick and has a short temper that gets him into trouble. Murray can play the same game but is a bit more mobile and is better at picking his spots.
