Doubtful considering we have better options and our young defenseman will be even better by the time the team is selected.

How is Fowler lingering behind Gogo and Carle? He's been very good this year.

I think Chris has all of the names represented. The U.S. will once again feature a good skating, solid-fundamental team with some of the best goaltending in the tourney. Not a ton of natural skill down the middle, but I think the potential scoring woes of the U.S. gets overblown. There are a ton of 30+ goal scorers represented. There is also a lot of skill on the blueline.

I have a hard time seeing Yandle not on the team. He's one of our best offensive defensemen.

I was skeptical about JVR having a shot, but he may be playing his way into Sochi with his play right now. He also plays with Kessel so it could be a good idea to put them together in the Olympics if they continue having good chemistry.

I don't want to sound bias but how is Callahan not even considered let alone on the team. There are way too many intangibles for Callahan. He almost has to be considered a lock. Hits, blocks shots, kills penalties, good on the PP, a captain in the NHL, 25 goal scorer. I just can't see it.

Peters had Callahan in his lineup as an extra forward because [paraphrasing] he can play on any line. The poster you quoted must have accidentally left his name off.

It hasn't been official yet but I believe CBC's the Hotstove Panel on HNIC mentioned either last week or a couple of weeks ago that the US camp will be held between Aug 23-26 at the Washington Capitals practice rink in Arlington, VA.

I agree with you and think he will be a captain on the team.

Oh okay that makes sense. That post got me a little riled up cause Callahan is my favorite player.

I think Bobby Ryan should play center in the Olympics, he is playing C right now for Anaheim and according to ducks fans, he is playing very well. Gives us a bit more skill at the center position throughout the lineup.

A top line of Parise - Ryan - Kane could be good.

Other than that, Brown - Backes - Callahan should be our shutdown line.

From there, it gets a lot trickier to predict the other two lines.

good to see JVR and Patches getting some recognition for their hard work. I think Wheeler makes it as well helping the US really get bigger on the wings as all three have size and can skate. none are going to destroy you along the boards every shift, but the size will help with some board battles as they will be replacing the likes of Drury and Langenbrunner...though losing Malone and his size is a wash with the third forward.

Anyone want to hazard a guess on the Orientation Camp Roster? Based on the previous format (although I think they might invite more goalies this time):

Goaltenders (x3):

Jonathan Quick
Ryan Miller
Jimmy Howard

* Craig Anderson and Cory Schneider might also be in play

Defensemen (x12):

Erik Johnson
Jack Johnson
Ryan Suter
Keith Yandle
Dustin Byfuglien
Kevin Shattenkirk
Brooks Orpik
Ryan McDonagh
Justin Faulk
Cam Fowler
Zach Bogosian
John Carlson

* I can see Seth Jones getting an invite

Forwards (x19):

David Backes
Dustin Brown
Ryan Callahan
Patrick Kane
Ryan Kesler
Phil Kessel
T.J. Oshie
Zach Parise
Joe Pavelski
Bobby Ryan
Paul Stastny
James van Riemsdyk
Max Pacioretty
Blake Wheeler
Colin Wilson
Derek Stepan
Jason Pominville
Brian Gionta
Alex Galchenyuk
Drew Stafford

JVR has really stepped it up this year. I was ready to give up on his chances to play in Sochi, but he's right back in the mix with his hot start to the season.

So i have a monthly subscription to USA Hockey Magazine and they made their prediction picks of our roster for 2014.. I used a filter so the text would pop out a little easier if you wanted to try and read it.

McDonagh....

I am with you on this. If he continues this play through this year and the next, he's probably on the team.

McDonagh....
Thanks for sharing this!

Hopefully USA Hockey doesn't forget McDonagh's eligible. Their roster looked fine except for maybe Wheeler, but I'm nitpicking here.
