BEtween the emergence of Gagne and the lack of success RNH is having on the the top line I wonder if this might get some interest. A more Bulldog type player might be a better fit with Eberle and Hall/Yakupov (Yak and Hall swappped last game)

I know the deal would be a damn sight closer if Gardiner were 100%, but I hear he is improving.

I think EDM wants the playoffs worse thant we do. New arena deal. All these young pieces.

With three(four counting Hemsky) Elite Wingers, RHN is wasted on that top line.

He is not as agressive as Grabo. BUt when your Linemates won't pass the puck to you Why the **** are you on the line.

I've watched most EDM games this year.

Eberle does not want to pass to RNH.

Don't know why but he would rather fudge the play then set up RNH.

Eberle and Hall seem to have all the odd man rush plays worked out between them. Meaning there is no pass to a trailing RNH.

So try some thign different. They've alrady tried by swapping Yak for Hall.

This is more drastic but I think It works.

Lupol-Bozak-Kessel
JvR-Grabo-Oshie
Frattin-Kadri-Kuli
Komarov-Mcclement-Orr
Mclaren
Nah, I'd rather try to find a guy to play with Kessel than get another good winger, even though Oshie is a primary center. The reason Burke didn't want Jeff Carter from Philly was because his right handed shot, theres the video of him saying it like the behind the draft 2011. Anyway, Berglund would look better on this team, hes also physical, bigger, defensively sound and is a left handed center.

http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/...to_injury.html

Quote:
The pressure will be on new GM Dave Nonis to find some goaltending help if Reimer’s injury drags on. The short-term answer is obviously one of the two goalies with the AHL Marlies, Jussi Rynnas and Mark Owuya.

Rynnas is 8-7-1 with a 2.54 goals-against average and .914 save percentage. Owuya is 3-4-0, 3.29, .869.
Quote:
Another name that comes up is Roberto Luongo, the highly paid Vancouver Canuck who is now the backup to Cory Schneider. Luongo has been long linked to a trade with Toronto, but the Leafs have balked at the asking price of Tyler Bozak, Nazem Kadri and a draft pick.

Both Bozak and Kadri appear too central to Nonis’s plans to be surrendered. And Nonis still feels this is a building team so it’s hard to believe he’d give up a high draft pick for an aging goalie with a huge contract.

It’s also believed Anaheim would be willing to move Jonas Hiller, who has lost his No. 1 job to rookie Viktor Fasth. Carlyle has a relationship with Hiller and the Leafs have used the Ducks like a pipeline in recent years.

The defending Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings might be tempted to move highly regarded backup Jonathan Bernier.

And there remain some unsigned goalies: Dwayne Roloson, who played in Tampa last year; Brent Johnson, who backed up in Pittsburgh; and Ty Conklin, Antero Niittymaki and Alex Auld.

Listened to the Team1200 today, and they mentioned that some beat writer for the Avs (Dater? I didn't catch the name) believes that Ryan O'Reilly will never play for the Avs again.

They naturally discussed what it would take for Ottawa to get him... but that's not the discussion here.

Do WE go after him? If so, what can we realistically offer? And where does he play? (or what do you do with Bozak/Grabbo?).

Obviously ROR has been discussed here quite a bit but this is looking like a Kyle Turri/PHX saga where he eventually gets dealt.

Centers:
If it is about money, Grabovski is off the table.
Bozak is UFA he is off the table.
So what other center do the Leafs have with any value?

Defenders:
Gardiner isn't healthy right now.
Rielly isn't NHL ready.
Gunnarsson doesn't have the value of O'Reilly.

How about something like Couturier for O'Reilly?

Edm should offersheet ROR, would be a great addition to their top 6 and they can afford to lose the picks

from the Leafs perspective

the bozak and kessel for ROR, 1st and maybe Siemens was an interesting idea
I know people are probably even more against trading Kessel at this point but i still think this team can do what they are doing without him and ROR would be a great fit for the type of game they are playing

Q: Who are the top five key players who could get dealt at the trade deadline?

A: First off, the trade deadline this year is April 3. Anybody who can be an unrestricted free-agent July 1 is a prime candidate,

By Jim Matheson, Edmonton Journal

Quote:
— Tim Connolly. The Leafs buried his $4.6 million contract in the minors with their AHL club. Come April, though, somebody will be looking for an offensive centre who’s played close to 700 games. The key with a team trading for him: he’s almost always hurt.
I don't imagine we would get much for him but maybe a 5th rd. choice.

Anyone have an idea who the Leafs might call up to backup Scrivens?

I'm not sure if Rynnas or Owuya are logical choices right now. Both need to keep playing in the AHL.

Anyone available in free agency?

Maybe Brent Johnson or Alex Auld?

Franson + Komisarek + MacArthur would give us what?

Franson is a very decent offensive and defensive defenceman. We have to give up something good to get something good.

Komisarek is not a terrible guy and I think most teams would take a chance on him.

MacArthur is a great guy, having a bit of a hard time this season but has gotten a few points the last few games. He will prob get more playing with Kadri and Frattin.

What do you think we would get in return for these types of players? Komi is sitting out, Franson is playing very well but we need to make room for Gardiner and MacArthur stock will go up playing with Kadri and Frattin.

Don't want to burst the bubble, but speculation is that Armstrong was there scouting the Flyers.

The Flyers also had 2 scouts at the Blues game last night.

There is 0 incentive to trade any of them right now. Franny's playing lights out, Komisarek is playing like a top-4 (when he gets the opportunity), and MacArthur seems to be playing well with Kadri-Frattin.

We don't need to get worse at this time.

Edit: If we need to make room for Gardiner, it'll be one of the AHL d-men.

Not enough to make a trade like this worthwhile.

I wouldn't be adverse to trading Mac but I'd be afraid of injuries. We don't have a helluva lot of depth on wing

This is another tweet by Kevin Mcgran from last night to back up Scrivens after Reimer got hurt.

Kevin McGran ‏@kevin_mcgran

hearing Jussi Rynnas is en route to #Leafs game. not 100 per cent certain, but not surprised

Probably a decent package if some salary is retained, maybe a mid/late first, B/C prospect, and 3rd/4th line grinder to a contender that needs depth. But yeah, no need to have the fire sale BEFORE the collapse we all know is coming

I'll be very upset if Franson gets traded. His offensive skill and long reach makes him a viable option in both ends.

One of the best dman to getting pucks through to the net. Love both of the slap-passes he's made with Frattin.

You don't trade when players are at a low point, it yields a poor return. Sure he's expendable, but it's not the time to get rid of him.

Can they sign a limited NHL contract for emergency or must the burn a contract spot? It is possible the best they can do is sign a veteran to play with the Marlies under a PTO and recall Rynnas.
