Get it done JR. Dude is freakin amazing and he makes Staal even that much better. These two can/will be very dangerous.

How many years have Canes fans been crying for a real winger for Staal?

He's here!

Its funny reading the main page and people blasting Semin.

I think we all agree he is legit, and deserves to stay in Carolina.

Yeah, that thread is a mess.

I seem to remember hearing nothing but criticism about Allen from Florida fans as well...

In fairness, Allen was pretty bad there. Sometimes it just works out that way, like Ian White when he was here.

His shot is mesmerizing.
Me... sorta. Red Wings fan but followed the Caps a bit because Fedorov landed there. Now it's all Semin

weird question, but does anyone know when JR's even allowed to start negotiating an extension here? Being on a one-year deal in a shortened season I honestly don't know.

Allowed by the league? I thought they could do that at any time...

You can always negotiate. You just cannot re-sign a player on a 1 year deal until January 1st. So, it could be done now.

You only have to be a fan of hockey talent to appreciate Alex Semin.

Why doesn't he just use his Russian name like he does in International tournaments? Syoman?

Where does "Sasha" come from?

Please forgive if it's been covered before...

I always thought it was a Russian nickname for Alexander. I've heard people refer to Ovechkin as Sasha as well. Maybe I'm wrong.

I believe that's the case. The nickname for Pavel is "Pasha," that's why you here him called that a bunch as well.

Yeah I know, bringing up an old thread but it seems a little dead around here right now. So, the consensus is that Alexander Semin is well liked and seems to like it in Carolina. Numbers have been thrown around but what if he wants an extention for the same dollars? If push comes to shove, I say lock it up. I wouldn't let this fellow walk away from the franchise. Is $500,000 per a deal breaker? Considering what other elite players are being paid, it isn't to me.

Depends on if you believe a contract year influences his play and more importantly, whether this current cap hit can be sustained on a small market team when Skinner's bigger cap hit comes to be next year.

If there is no confidence that he will be re-signed and therefore a possibility that he just walks, is a trade an option? There must be some talk going on behind the scene now. Some sort of 'feeling out' discussions one would think. Teams that may have bought into some of the BS about him before may have changed their perspective now, like the Pens for instance.

Only if we're out of the playoff picture by the time the trade deadline rolls around.
