Eberle and Hall just signed longterm deals at premium dollar amounts. This is as clear a sign as any that theteam views these two as core pieces.
The Oilers have three first over all picks plus Eberle and Schultz. Now is the time for them to start focusing on building the team around these kids. They don't need to trade for additional late first round picks at the expense of any of these kids, and they would never do so.
Clowe is the type of player the Oilers should be interested in. His issue is that he is a UFA so unless the Oilers were sure he would resign at a reasonable number they would be unlikely to give up what SJ would want for him. IF he does hit the FA market I think it is likely that the Oilers would give him serious consideration. What is less certain is if he would want to be in Edmonton. Though the team can make a much stronger case now than they could even a short time ago.
