RDS: Habs offer over $4M to Shanahan

http://rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/208022.html

Boston offers 9.8M/2yr

Quote:

4 millions would be good, but no more.

people talk alot about the connection between Shanahan and Lewis in Boston...

But what about the connection of Shanahan and Gainey in the competition committee? I bet they know each other well enough

(fueling the rumours hehe)

I would go as far as the Bruins go, the minute they're not in the race, I would lower it down. I would have a tough seeing Boston adding Shanahan, but if he choose Detroit or LA, I wouldn't care as much....

Shanahan and Dandenault are good friends...Why doesn't Mat do something useful for once and convince his buddy to sign here??

it ws originally reported as 4, but it's really 5. TSN mucked up the length of the deal when they originally reported it.

If I was GM, I would do 2 yrs/10 M $ to just try to get ahead of the pack here and seperate myself a bit from LA,Boston and Detroit.

Hmmm, if it's 4 million, it better be no more than two years. I'm not that high on Shanahan but we are in desperate straits on the wings so we might have no choice.

I would not give Shanny that kind of money. I hope Gainey won't.

Option years are not allowed in the new CBA if I remember correctly. Can somebody else confirm?

Why not ... You almost always have to overpay to get a free agent and with 2 yrs, it isn't like your stuck long term plus it stays withing the philosophy of the team.

Kovalev,Koivu,Shanahan will only have 500K difference between them.

If Shanny wants 5mil per for 2 years I dont mind seeing him signing somewhere else. He should not be paid top dollar on our team and I think that is too much money for Shanny. I want to see the guy here but not for any kind of price. 5 mil per season for Shanny is too much IMO, even a 2 year deal. Highest I would go would be about 4 mil.
