Most would agree here that he's been great this season, so far.

Why he's not playing? I wish I could answer that.

Believe me when I say this, we'll need him/whoever else down the line.

So what other center do the Leafs have with any value?

Defenders:
Gardiner isn't healthy right now.
Rielly isn't NHL ready.
Gunnarsson doesn't have the value of O'Reilly.

How about something like Couturier for O'Reilly?
Maybe they'd be intrigued by Joe Colborne? We'd have to add to that, but could it be enough to get Colorado's attention??

I would also like to point out that the Leafs have played 2 more games then most teams. Their place in the standings is so meaningless.

We know JVR and Kessel will be part of team USA.

I hope MacArthur impressed some scouts.

Personally, I'd consider Colborne the throw-in with a real player.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

From what I have been reading he's looking for a Defenceman and we have a few that may be available however Komisarek and Gunnarsson weren't playing last night.

Why he's not playing is simple actually.

The day before we played Winnipeg, he got hurt. So he didn't play, we won the game, and we've been on a winning streak ever since. Carlyle has kept the same line-up for the past 4 games. Simple as that. Not a big deal or anything just keeping the winning formula together.

Franson and MacArthur are probably at least worth 2nd round picks. Franson for sure right now...MacArthur maybe a bit less than that, since he's not producing as well.

Komisarek, probably a 4th rounder at the very best, given his salary and recent production numbers. JMO.

I would say, with all their injuries Colorado might be willing to suit up Komisarek, Franson and MacArthur. But probably not nearly enough to get a return for a guy like O'Reilly. Who I think Colorado is over-valuing both on and off the ice.

Right, I forgot about his fiber-glass incident .

Thanks, DD

I don't want to trade Franson. If he continues to play like he has (or even better, improve), I'd rather see the Leafs give him a contract rather than trade him.

Oh, I agree, but maybe they'd be willing to make a deal, and use Colborne as their #3 C. It may be a bit of a downgrade, but they'd get another piece in the deal as well.

And yet, the rest of your comment box is blank...

And right now, Franson is out-scoring Justin Schultz, tied for 11th in D scoring. Yah, let's trade him NOW...

I hope we don't give up on Franson, but his value is looking pretty good right now...

As a purely hypothetical move (as stated in the first post, it's highly unlikely anyone's getting traded anytime soon), I'm pretty sure that'd be enough to land a low-level 1st line C (slightly better than Grabovski, maybe a peak 60-65pt/yr guy). That said, I wouldn't be absolutely shocked if Franson + MacArthur + decent prospect and/or pick (conditional 3rd + Blacker?) would be enough to land a pending UFA that's not going to resign with his team (thinking Getzlaf specifically), though that'd be nothing short of a steal.

Still, I'd rather keep Franson and MacArthur if at all possible. When Gunnar, Brown and Lupul return and Gardiner is recalled (which is unlikely unless Holzer starts to struggle, IMO), I hope that it's McLaren, Holzer and Kostka that are demoted instead of a trade.

I wonder if O'Reilly is an Avalanche version of Stajan?

But then where would O'Reilly fit?

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JvR - Kadri - Frattin
Komarov - Grabovski - Kulemin
McLaren - McClement - Orr
-Brown

RoR is far far better defensively and he broke out offensively at a much younger age, age 20 for RoR and age 25 for Stajan.

Bozak would move down to the third and shift kadri back to the wing, although we're playing so well right now (especially bozak) that the trade almost seems unnecessary. Ideally, grabo would be the center to ship out but he's not going the other way in a trade for o'Reilly.

Oh, I think O'Reilly should be a better player, but Stajan broke in the old NHL the waterskiing NHL, on a veteran team with Sundin and Nieuwendyk as the centers. He was never going to get the ice time O'Reilly did with a rebuilding squad.

It is possible O'Reilly is benefitting in the same manner Stajan did after the collapse of the Leafs. When Stajan was given all those opportunities because there wasn't better options. Does O'Reilly get the same opportunities if Sakic and Stastny are playing big minutes? I doubt it.

So, again, I'd worry that O'Reilly has looked good on a team similar to the situation that Stajan looked good on the Leafs.

I'm with you. I don't get the infatuation with ROR.

If you actually watched him, and didn't just look at his #'s from last year, you'd realize that he doesn't and likely won't ever have the offensive abilities to be a #1 C.

I understand brining him in as a 2a/2b with Bozak or Grabo and moving the other... but I'm not convinced he's a solution to the long-term playmaker for Phil void.
