Aside from the obvious, toss up between Larsson/Hedmen.

i know he'll develop into something better than his current version, but I really wish we'd taken Hamilton or Brodin over Zibby

Maybe? He won the Norris as a 21 year old and was pretty much a lock for repeating it again this year before he got Cooke'd. He for sure has a few more Norris' in him.

That's what everyone said about Doughty and he hasn't been nominated since.

It's not easy to win multiple and it's certainly not "for sure".

A Brodin-Karlsson pairing longterm would be jaw-dropping.

96-born Sebastian Aho D will be dressed for Skelleftea against Farjestad tonight. He might be given some small ice time.

Brodin is looking like the next young Swede to make an impact. I can totally see a Brodin-Karlsson paring for Sochi, that would be some lethal mobility

I've seen him play a few times. Extremely talented but still quite small, it looks like he's still growing though.

I can't say I've seen any of Brodin in the offensive zone...only because I've watched about 10 minutes of the Wild this year.

I was looking for Jared Spurgeon actually, a young unheralded D who I've always thought was a pretty good Dmen. So I spot a small-ish Dman who caught my eye, looked real good, like really good.

Couldn't be Spurgeon, I thought...definitely not Suter. It was Brodin. Sometimes you watch a kid for 5 seconds and you see him handle the puck, skate with it, and make decisions and you can tell its something he does often and easily. As I continued to watch Brodin playing like a veteran who was also a high end player.

He's certainly someone to watch. I'm a big fan of OEL, but this Brodin kid man...smart plays in confined area, great skater, makes plays with a lot of pace.

What's in the water in Sweden man? And why is it the Dmen are drinking more of it than the forwards? Every year there's a new "it" Dman from Sweden, who rises late, and never rises as far as he should. Every year.

Erik Karlsson. But guys like OEL, Brodin, Larsson and Hedman will be good as well.

Hedman is still taking good steps forward, and OEL keeps trending upward.

Brodin new to the scene like a bawse.

What happened to Ekholm?

I mean -30?? Watching Sens games the kid gets beat often...

If he wants to score goals every single time with ill regard to the defensive game he should be a forward not a defensemen.
Fun thread.

If Karlsson can get a good defensive game going he can be the "Next big Swede." but remember the last big Swede was a perennial Norris winner and was a defensive juggernaut to boot. MASSIVE shoes to fill.

He's in the AHL working on his game. Judging by his stats sheet he looks to be doing pretty well. The people who thought he was going to become a #1 defenceman were probably hyping him up a little too much though.

He'll probably get his chance to join the NHL team out of training camp next season.

Umm the title of the thread isn't "Next top-5 all-time Defenceman (from Sweden)".

It's the next great one from Sweden. There's horses in that race already.

I also wish we had taken Brodin or Hamilton over Zibanejad. I think they'll all be great players though.

It's meant that he's a player that can legitimately win it in any given season. Among a handful of players. Not that he's going to win 5 of them.
