Forgive this ignorant question as I'm not super familiar with the CBA and how this works. On the face of it, it seems like a similar situation to me.
There's always that risk. I doubt it would as typially it only happens to guys who would likely have a big market for his services, such as Schultz or Wheeler.

Sure he could but I would be really surprised if he did.

I got to talk with him several times during the past few weeks and in the past and all he ever says about his future plans is to become a King and win a cup. Here is a quote from him Q, where do you see yourself in four years? A(DF), "I am going to do whatever it takes to become a King. I want to get my name on the Cup and be a Los Angeles King when I do". Then he talked about how cold it can get in ND (Grand Forks is just over 100 miles South of Winnipeg and it gets truly cold in Wpg as an example) and what a great perk it would be to play in LA.

Anything is possible but when he talks about his future he always mentions the Kings so I think we are alright. He would have to become an RFA before we would lose him outright so we should be good for a little while longer.

Forbort has never impressed me. Every time I watch him play, he's mediocre or worse against collegiate players.

He reminds me of one of those typical prospects that get overrated because of their size.

You'll have to forgive eenok. He's upset that Vatanen isn't being handed a 1st pairing role in Anaheim. I've already told him that the Kings aren't going to move Voynov, and they especially aren't going to move him to a division rival.

I'm from Southern California, how are you?

How about you guys take Stoll and Richardson from Kings for Ryan. Just curious.

It's not a proper HF trade offer unless you add in a 3rd.

A fifth is the new third. And by fifth I'm talking about 750 mL, not a power chord.

Ryan Whitney is a healthy scratch again for the oilers tonight. Might be able to Pick him up for some picks.

Injury prone but could be a good Change for him

It would be a decision Forbort himself makes and would force the Kings' hand somewhat. I think DL is on record a couple of different times saying that he expects Forbort playing all 4 years at ND and then getting a look. I could maybe see Gravel leaving early since he seems to have a faster progression than Forbort and is more one dimensional as a player.

Edmonton's blogger suggested Penner for Ryan Whitney...both UFA's...not bad IF Martinez, Greene and Mitchell are done for the year.

I think he's looked great this year, friend of mine who lives in Grand Forks and is a huge UND fan says he's been great this year as well, really coming into his own.

Something I suggested last year on LGK that no one seemed to like - yet seems to be where Dean and Sutter want to take this team - is using our center depth to, in essence, roll four lines that could all be considered second or third lines at their worst. We saw this last night in St. Louis, with our "fourth" line being Penner-Stoll-Lewis.

If the plan, which I think it should be, is to go forward with Kopitar-Carter-Richards-Stoll as our four centers, we need to play money ball on the wings. We could do this with youth (ex. Toffoli) or reclamation projects (ex. Gagne, Penner) or both.

Going forward this is our permanent skeleton under this philosophy:

xxxxxx-Kopitar-Brown
xxxxxx-Carter-Williams
xxxxxx-Richards-xxxxxx
xxxxxx-Stoll-xxxxxx

Guys like Lewis, King, Nolan, etc. are all surely to be on the team next season, but all in bottom six roles. Once again, the lack of a true, natural LW in the system continues to plague us. However, Brown has shown that he can play a top line LW role, meaning we don't necessarily need to break the bank going after a top flight LW of Vanek/Ovechkin caliber.

Prospects ready to make the jump come down to Toffoli, a natural RW and likely good compliment on a Kopitar line where he can have a lot of room. This almost assures Brown gets moved to the left.

With all of that said, we're looking at something like this:

Brown-Kopitar-Toffoli
xxxxxx-Carter-Williams
xxxxxx-Richards-Nolan
King-Stoll-Lewis

Assuming only Toffoli makes the jump and King/Nolan/Lewis don't lose their spot at any point, we're looking at a need for a first/second line LW to play with Carter and a bottom six LW to play with Richards.

As far as LWs go that fit this mold and may or may not be available at the deadline, via free agency, or a draft day trade, we're looking at a relatively short list.

Some of the big name free agents that would be attractive to Lombardi's type of player are Brenden Morrow, Ryan Clowe, and Guilamme Latendresse. Clowe and Morrow are likely to not be interested, seeing as how they've been fixtures on division rivals for years.

Other names that may elicit interest include:

Clarke Macarthur
Matt Cooke
Mason Raymond

Simon Gagne and/or Dustin Penner could easily play their way into renewed contracts, as well.

There's also a whole slew of RFAs that could possibly be had if the price is right, including Geoffrion, Hagelin, Paajarvi, Korpikoski, etc.

I believe this is absolutely the way to build the team going forward.

I would order a Clowe jersey the day LA signs or trades for him.

Also, Richie10, you completely left Clifford out of the equation who is a natural LW. Barring injury, he isn't going anywhere. That being said, I'd love Clowe in my Top-6.
