That's a good caveat for any trade possibility. Also speaks to the big time misses in the 2007-2009 drafts potentially affecting the better work we did in 2010-2012 and possibly beyond, because if we had a player ready to step in at LW3, we wouldn't need to make any acquisitions at this deadline (hopefully).

It is, but even more so with the Leafs imo. They tend to get a better return for these types for some reason. Perhaps it's wanting to maximize assets to divisional rivals, or perhaps they've been selling so long they're just better at it then everyone else. Not sure.

When it comes to bottom 6 players though I wouldn't mind seeing Chia and Co. shop elsewhere. Rich Clune/R.J. Umberger/David Jones types might be good guys to take a look at out west.

The gm that got those returns is gone now though, no?

One of those 3 names isn't really like the others. How is Clune all that different than the Chris Bourque experience? Can't see them bringing in $4.6m/4yrs of Umberger or $4m/3yrs of David Jones with the cap trouble they're already in for next year.

Hordichuck clears Waivers. Cgy places D. Taylor on Waivers and Bos places J. Pandolfo on Waivers.
anyone knows what this means?

never mind

With Jay Pandolfo on waivers (by BOS) it's obvious they have signed him. Requires waivers first tho.

Different type of player. Energy type, solid hitter. He's already shown he can take that type of game to the NHL, where with Bourque you're hoping he can translate AHL success.

And good point on contracts, but I'm more interested in that "type" of player, not that player exclusively. Should have looked more closely before throwing out Umberger and Jones as potential targets though. Those were just names thrown out without much thought. Established, solid two way types. MacArthur also fits the mold, but again, the Toronto factor.

Maybe as things start to become more clear you see a guy like Morrow or Steve Sullivan become available.

Chris Higgins or Blake Comeau fit in the 3rd line and both are UFA's, cant go wrong with either.

No thanks to any kind of heavy. Just ignore the plug like we did Sunday and the problem goes away.
I think a good name is Ponikarovsky. Big and lefty, something we really need.

Would be a good option, but signed, through 2016-17, and making $4.6M, definitely is a no go.

Ryan Whitney is a healthy scratch again tonight. He seems pretty upset and might ask for a trade. I'd buy low on him and he's an UFA at the end of the year.

You would have your players on a 2 on 1 dump the puck and go for a change?

If Chris Kelly was involved in the 2-on-1, then yes. I would.

If you like skill, skating, hitting, or all around play? No, in fact he's terrible.

If you like staged fights that have little impact on the scoreboard (note how often they happen in the playoffs)? I guess so, I don't care about these things enough to pay attention.

The only thing I remember about Blake Comeau is from a B's-Isles game the day before Savard got hurt. His epic swan dive got Ryder tossed out of the game and assessed a match penalty.

It would make a ton of sense. Great, heavy hitter on the forecheck who is a gem to have in the room as well. Can go/beat any guy in their division full of super-heavies.

But then again... it IS Montreal, sooooo...

Dammit Chia needed to pony up a 7 th rdpick! He will never get to us now! Montreal is going to get him and he will be put on the "leave alone" list next to Scott Orr and mclaren!

Good for them, that means they will have to send a skater to the press box.
