Elliott next Lalime or Johnson

Had one great year and is really just an average goalie your thoughts?

Elliott has always been an average goalie, last year was a fluke

lalime and johnson aren't remotely the same, IMO. Neither is Elliott. He seems to have problems when the pressure is on. He's been pretty consistently bad in the shootout, when we had to come back after game 1 of LA, he was really exposed. With Halak injured and the spotlight on him to make some good saves, he's been choking. When Halak takes back the #1, he'll return to form. Certainly not the Jennings form from last year, but the form that makes a good first save and a couple of desperation ones.

He is a serviceable backup. With allen waiting in the AHL if a team offers any sort of pick or prospect he should be expendable.

He's Roman Turek if Turek never completely won the starter's job.

Elliott is and always will be a decent backup goalie and has proven that since last spring in the LA series.

Update : Renaud Lavoie via twitter: Blue goalie Jaroslav Halak (groin) will probably be out for a week. Jeremy Rutherford via twitter: The Blues have recalled goalie Jake Allen from the AHL. from MyNHLtradeRumors.

I expect Allen to be the the Blues starting goalie in Detroit tomorrow night.

Mason had a hell of a run that season to get the Blues to the playoffs. He hadn't done anything like that before or since then.

He is a very good backup.

I would say he is in the top 3 backups in the league. He is not a starting goalie and I think he has a mental block when he knows there is nothing behind him.

If Halak comes back and plays very well, we will see Elliotts play get much better

Player do have off yrs and our team d is about as bad as it gets right now. It's a tough yr for goalies, i think the lockout hurts their position more than forwards or d. I'm not making excuses for him, and I have always preferred Halak but let's wait till next season before we decide he's a one yr and done guy.

I think too many people here forget how young he is. He hasn't even hit his prime.

A fantastic season and one bad stretch (granted that it hasn't ended yet) and people here are already to decide what type of goalie he will be for his career? Yikes!

I know he wasn't amazing on Ottawa or Colorado either but he did have OK numbers in Ottawa. Personally I could care what we do with him but I am far from writing him off.

How many times has Elliot bailed out Halak? He had a bad stretch give him a break.

Elliott cannot seem to maintain focus when he knows the job's his. Notable exception is last year's playoffs against the Sharks, but we saw what happened against LA. Started off well again this year until Halak got hurt, then fell off.

I think Elliott, as much as I like him personally, should move on. We need a backup that can take the reigns and play well without the pressure from the true number one. Allen has shown he can do that and not give up stupid goals, plus he's cheaper which is always good.
