Yeah but when the draft is supposedly crappy Poile becomes a drafting god with a hacked cheat sheet with all the player ratings.

1 leafs fan offered me Kessel for Watson, 1st, 2nd, & Josi. I responded with change Josi to either Blum or Ellis and we might have a deal. What do you think? Too much? Too little? Just right?

This. Ellis is definitely starting to pan out. That said I can't imagine toronto is looking for prospects for kessel. They need to win now. Id be shocked if they moved kessel at all

I'd only do it if Kessel signed an extension pre-trade.

If there was a way to keep Horns (he and Kessel on the same line would be ideal), that would be great. Maybe take out Dion and Horns?

What about trading Goose or Hali + pick to Florida for Stephen Weiss.

I know he's a UFA at the end of the season but he would be a nice center pick up for us and fit well I believe. I know we have a good amount of centers but he's much more talented than Goose and could be a 1st or 2nd line center on our team.

We could probably get him back in the off-season for around $4-$5 mil.

Just a thought but I'd be all in.

Which is exactly why the Panthers wouldn't want to do it. Weiss is way more important to Florida than a bottom 3 forward and a pick. They would want an impact player if they're going to trade the face of their franchise. He also wants to stay there.

There is no way they do that deal.... I'd love Weiss though

I feel we could give up someone else in place of Goose. Just a suggestion because I have read that Weiss is going to take a look at other offers during free agency.

If Weiss is available in free agency, that's when we go after him. I wouldn't want to waste the assets it would take to acquire him via trade seeing he could just leave on July 1st. I don't want us spending anything on trade deadline rentals this year.

Agreed. This likely isn't "our year," and the draft is too good and too deep. Free agency looks insane this summer, though I'm sure some of these folks will re-sign with their teams.

The only way I would be okay with blowing assets is if it's on someone like, say, Perry...and there's a reasonable belief that you can get him to sign, as hitting the open market on July 5 likely kills any chance of it happening.

I also agree no sense using anything for a rental.

Free agency will be interesting this year. Normally I'd say we'll never land the Perrys / Getzlafs / Weiss's of the world, but with the cap dropping to ~$64M and teams like VAN, BOS, PHI, etc. already fairly hamstrung in terms of cap space, we might be able to poach someone of note this year.

Notable 2013 UFAs include:

Iginla
Elias
Backstrom
Perry
Getzlaf
Ribeiro
Jagr
Selanne (never happening)
And many more

Capgeek list:
http://www.capgeek.com/free-agents/

I highly doubt Elias hits the block, but I have a big mancrush on him for the Preds. 6'1" 200lb Center averaging 60-70 pts a year with a great attitude / personable demeanor. If he did hit the block:

Weiss is my target. I think he's much more realistic than Perry/Getz (I'd certainly call up their agent too), but he would be a great addition.

I wouldn't be surprised if Blum is trade bait, but at the same time that guy seems even less credible than the already suspect rumor mongers on Twitter.

Well even if he is being shopped what would be the return for a young guy that can't break into the Preds lineup more than the 7th guy. Even with a high draft pick a third line forward. With Blum and a 1st rounder I do not see an impact player. This team needs a splash in the pool not just a ripple.

Given the defensive issues in EDM and the stacked core of young forwards, I think they make sense even if the trade proposals that appear on the Trade forum are all awful. Any other team in a similar situation might be game; BUF and CAR are other possibilities. MTL maybe; I'd do something around Plekanec though he's on fire thus far this year so likely never going to happen.

It's all unlikely though. I think there's a fair chance we stand pat until the deadline.

I've always been a huge fan of Getzlaf! I'd love to see him in our smashville gold. Could be a real nice fit, although I know we would have to throw a big amount of dough to get him to come out here and there's always a chance of him re-signing before seasons end with anaheim.

Right now my choices for FA this year are Getzlaf and Weiss primarily, not knowing any wingers other than perry that will be on free agency.

Love to grab one of those guys ^^^

COME ON POILE!!!
