And his absence is noticed.

I have looked at it.

The Oilers were already barely scraping out games before he got injured. All the team's games are still one goal games, and when your team struggles to score more than 2 goals a game in this league for long stretches, you are going to lose more than you win.

Unless you're going to suggest Horcoff is an important scorer on this roster

- The faceoffs are bad with him, bad without him - his last game as an Oiler he was 23% on the dot in just 10 minutes of ice time.
- The penalty kill is just as good without him.
- The powerplay is still scoring as well. They had 1/9 games with Horcoff in the line up, and 1/8 games without him in the lineup. The earlier pace of scoring 2 - 4 PP goals a game wasn't going to last, and really had nothing to do with Horcoff's contributions in that discipline.

The team was heading for a slide with Horcoff in the lineup and were already putting in some tepid performances. The way the Oilers lost those last few games during the cold streak, they still lose all those games in the same way if Horcoff didn't get injured and played in those games.

The 'Lets Talk' day is essentially a mental health day to try and get people to open up and talk more if they are having problems. It's a very good cause, I'm sure you've seen the Bell tv ads with Clara Hughes in them?

It's for a good cause, every tweet they donate 5 cents. God forbid people raise awareness on something that affects TONS of people.

Whitney's done as an Oiler I suspect, and probably done in the NHL unless something changes. He looks slow and lost, add that to the fact he's not a physical d-man and it's a quick trip to bovine university for him. He's going the way of Cheechoo and so many before him. Crappy deal but at least he got to play.

Smitty's gonna be fine IMO. He can't play every game any more and that's ok. He's has to stop hacking with his stick though. Those are easy calls for the refs, new or old NHL.

Whitney can cry me a river for all I care. You're play just isn't good enough, surely you can figure that out. Also like the Smyth scratching, maybe he was too comfortable and this could wake him up too (but hey, thats what I thought the first scratch would do for Whitney).

Anyway, maybe we have seen Whitney's last game as an Oiler. Something has to give soon.

Yup, As someone who suffers anxiety disorder and is on Paxil and Ativan and had it affect my schooling and current job I'm glad a day like this exists, especially the 5 cents bell will donate to research and awareness issues, which lets be real here, its needs awareness, my boss and coworkers had no idea and just kept telling me to "not be scared" which if anyone knows anything about anxiety it's not just that easy...

I didn't know about the donations.
That makes it better! (seriously it does)

Yes, this is one issue that actually does need to raise awareness, as most people respond to other's anxiety in exactly the way you described. It's like telling a depressed person to cheer up.

Quite agree. As someone who has dealt with depression for the past four decades I can say you're right. It has cost me everything from family to friends to career opportunities to my credit. On at least two occasions it nearly cost me my life.

Nor is it just the general public who needs to be informed. I've been shafted by doctors, lawyers, the media and other professionals through their ignorance.

Not complaining. Just chiming in as to how important this kind of exposure is.

Go Oilers!

Yeah last year the 5 cent tweet/mention raised somewhere in the neighborhood of 4+ million last year... it is really a great cause man haha

Man, you think having hockey players would allow people to humanize and show a bit of empathy towards guys like Whitney when they're obviously down. I probably should have known better.

Agreed. I too have similar issues(panic disorder). So depression and anxiety are part of my daily life. I too have had many experiences with work, career and life. Mental health needs more awareness.

Thank you to all who participate in the Bell campaign.
