Here's what I don't get. Last week, Tencer and Gregor were all talking about how Ralph was spending extra time with Whitney to get his "funk" back. Week later and a 5 game lose streak is under the belt, Whitney is scratched for the game that breaks the streak. 2 days later, whitney is scratched again and now pissed off at the coach for using him wrong? Whitney has been given plenty of chances and for him to sit out two games should be the final straw. Coach working with you and being scratched 3 games and having the A stripped from ya should be a "man, I should get my ass in gear here''. Even if he does want to leave he needs to start playing better so he can go to a somewhat quality team.

While the title is humorous I would ask that we stop with the porn discussion.

Dallas always plays us tough. We have to have a better showing than in Columbus or we're going to get killed. Except Dubie. He can play exactly the same again.

Tambellini - "I expect that the next time he's (Whitney) in the line-up he'll play well. We need him."

Shut your mouth and get to work. He's so freaking clueless... it's painful.

How is that clueless? Seems like the thing to say if you are the GM.

The thing about Whitney is he giving it 100% but his injury issues are holding him back? Or is he not buying in and not giving 100%?

Ya you're right, Tambellini should come out and publicly announce that a player currently on the roster is garbage.

Some people around here need to put things in perspective before going off the deep end.

Has he watched Ryan Whitney play hockey over the past two years?

He should just stay in his self-imposed hibernation if he doesn't have anything of substance to say.

Probably a bit of both. He doesn't look comfortable physically on the ice at times, and others he's just flat out of position, not playing the body and turning some really soft pucks over. I know previously he could often skate his way out of trouble, this year he has clearly lost a step (could be conditioning, not just the injury), he's making mental mistakes and hasn't adjusted his game as necessary. The fact that he still thinks he can play that way leads me to believe he might just be out of shape, and not just feeling the effects of the injury.

I think it's a bit of both.

His injuries are obviously preventing him from ever returning to past form, but his give a **** level in the games he's played has been pretty low IMO.

Injuries don't excuse laziness and stupidity.

So he is supposed to bash him and then be unable to trade him? What if Whitney can regain his form? That helps us no? Being positive to the player is just the right thing.

What's painful is having to read posts like this. That's exactly what he should say and exactly what we as fans should want, because it's the truth. We need a Whitney that is playing well. Barring that, we need a Whitney that's worth trading.

Ya you're right. He should just ignore the reporter that asked him the question and walk away instead of making a positive statement that is 100% accurate.

I get it, you don't like Tambellini, but give me a break.

Come on dude. If he speaks negatively he reduces his value (if he has any), he just thinks Whitney can play better.

I think everyone does feel for Whitney at some level... his injuries aren't his fault and it's too bad he's regressed to the level he has, but that's life. At the NHL level if you can't keep up and contribute you don't belong anymore.

He has to give 100% and if that's not enough to keep up and perform adequately... it's goodbye after trying his best. Obviously Krueger doesn't feel he's doing his best and if it IS his best and he can do no better then he shouldn't be in the lineup anymore anyway. It's as simple as that.

Clearly Tambo should of slagged his player in front of the media.

Because you know, that's what good GMs do, right guys?

What do you expect for him to say? "I expect him to not be in the line up?" How do you think he feels? Whitney was suppose to be battling Schultz for top ice time, and top defense pairing. But he's on the third and scratched and making 6 million..... I would express how we need him and how when he's top dog everyone likes him. Comes a point you just have no idea what to say and do about a guy like Whitney.

I hope Whitney's pissed. He should be, his play has been crap.

This needed to happen.

So happy that Smyth is a scratch. Can't wait for Jones to come back.

Woulda coulda shoulda, mate.

I'd have preferred if he announced that he scratched Smyth and Whitney because he had just acquired Malkin by trading both to Pittsburgh and a seventh rounder.

Sounds like a call to action.
Sounds like he expects Whitney to play well. Let's hope Whitney stands up and rises to expectation?

How's it the truth? Whitney is completely incapable of bouncing back thanks to his broken down, busted feet and the vast majority of fans and everybody in the media knows this for a fact. Steve isn't fooling GM's on other clubs that Whitney is just going through a tough spell or something with those comments.

Did I go overboard? I guess (tough morning at work ) but I've never understood why GM's make those types of comments. Pro scouting is too good - you're not going to fool anybody - and you shouldn't have to coddle these millionaires like that.
