When you're a rookie leading the team in Plus/Minus (a differential of 11 more than the last player on the team), it's time to start taking more risks. MT needs to give him way more leeway, Chucky needs to stop playing Mother Teresa and start being a bit more selfish offensively.

+/- means absolutely nothing.....at all!

Guy Carbonneau was a -9 in 92-93 while players like Todd Ewen, Mario Roberge, Gilbert Dionne and Paul Dipietro were all + players. Not one of those players could hold Carbo's jockstrap in terms of defensive hockey.

Galchenyuk is playing extremely sheltered minutes......end of story.

+- can be a deceiving stat though. He's played very sheltered minutes with offensive zone draws. the fact that Plekanec is -3 and Galchenyuk is a good exhibit in deceiving +- stats.

Galchenyuk refused an interview with RDS in the warmup because he doesn't like to talk just before the game.

It didn't take long for Luc Gelinas to live up to the Montreal media's reputation:

Luc Gelinas ‏@LucGelinasRDS
Très rare. Parfois des super stars. RT "@_stevef_: @LucGelinasRDS C'est courant de refuser de parler durant la période d'échauffement?"

Translation:

Q: Is it current that players refuse to be interviewed in the warmup?
A: Really seldom. Sometimes superstars do.

I don't think that is a slight to Galchenyuk at all, maybe you're reading too much into it... he is a future superstar.

It's a good thing that you did translate what Luc Gélinas said because he cant.

He's not that bad. He can make coherent sentences in French. Probably the best on RDS. A second language doesn't come easily to all.

Make it 5 straight games now that Galchenyuk hasn't cracked the 12 minutes of TOI that Therrien talked about as necessary if you are going to keep a kid up. I get that we take too many penalties and he sort of pays the price with his TOI since he doesn't play on the PK, but there has to be a way to get him out there for closer to 14-15 minutes per game.

How do you guys think he's doing though, as a third line center all things considered?

Obviously we all love him and what he means to our future. (Just splurged on buying his jersey.) BUT, I'm wondering if, perhaps due to his lack of muscle since he's still young, he is not doing the things he otherwise would. Not that he's scared, but he realizes what he can and can't do. I honestly haven't noticed him that much. He's been responsible for sure and makes good passes, but I was expecting him to be rifling them a bit more often. Hopefully after awhile, as suggested, he stops being a 100% playmaker and goes for goal.

Isn't one reason players benefit from junior/AHL because they have more time to work out and thus bulk up? Is this a potential problem for him? He's tall, but looks like he's swimming in his jersey. Hopefully it's not long before he hangs on to the puck a little more since Max just cannot do anything interesting offensively. Can't believe the latter still has no goals and tbh, not many scoring chances.

I don't think Galchenyuk has looked particularly great, but he's learning plenty imo.
More ice time could be great, but the kid is only 18, not the end of the world if it takes longer.
