Which is why they were let go and Chicago "upgraded" to Carcillo.

Sad that we just couldn't pick him...

Or maybe we could? What was waiver priority at the beginning of the season?

If we claim somebody....who do we put on waivers? Or do we send Gallagher down?

When I first read this I got excited that we were trading for Zack Kassian.

Matt Kassian is fine for what he is though.

I think someone will claim this guy. There is a lot of fighting going on so far. Believe that was the case during our last lock-out shortened season as well. Kassian would be a good addition but I say he will get picked before we get the chance.

Matt Kassian is the guy who made Staubitz expandable for them right? If I remember correctly he's a good skater for a tough guy and he's not a bad hockey player either. I'd pick him up personally.

How many days do we have to decide on this? Is it same as last CBA?

That doesn't automatically exclude him from consideration as an addition, IMHO. But to me, there is still the 23-man roster question, who goes, and for what return, and what is Kassian's "intangibles" factor. Like when we had Downey or even Staubitz, I think they were recognized as good guys who worked hard even while serving pressbox duty, and that's important for the 13th forward, IMHO. I don't want just some psycho tough guy who won't set the right example to the young players. We're still a building team. You have to build with the right personalities, not have a freak show going on.
Kassian's a great locker room guy and beloved by fans. He's a respectful fighter and I've never once seen him act "goonish."

Cool your jets, we just got killed and are on a bad stretch. The last thing we need to do is something stupid and panicy which could cost us in years to come.

Kassian has played 28 NHL games in a potential 3-5 year span. There is a reason for that and clearly Minny knows that.

Seriously people, you all want us to make saavy moves but then when our players have a bad game its trade trade trade. Patience, selling high/buying low is the key to a franchise. Not scared panic trade away everything for nothing because they turned over the puck last game. Come on

You don't make major life decisions when you're reeling from a loss.

Useless. Put a goon on every line where 2 midgets play and then maybe this definition of "toughness" will be addressed... at the expense of hockey and just about everything else.

Here's an alternative: Don't draft midgets.

The guy is undefeated in his nhl career. Orr may beat him but I seriously doubt he will punch him out. Him and Bordeleau seem like some of the best young fighters in the league.

Kassian is only 26.

John Scott was undefeated. Didn't punch him out, but beat him.

Orr is an underrated fighter imo.

That's a good report, at least. It still leaves the 23-man roster issue unanswered, then.

But it sounds like the Kassian waiving starts at noon tomorrow, so there is a bit of extra time available to find out if the 23-man roster question can be addressed satisfactorily. I'll take Kassian if Armstrong or Kaberle go... somewhere, for assets in return. Or if a guy goes on IR. If not, pass. I think that is going to most likely result in "pass".

Our current midgets :

- Brian Gionta (not drafted by Habs, 3rd rounder otherwise)
- David Desharnais (not drafted)
- Brandon Gallagher (5th rounder)
- Francis Bouillon (undrafted - though he kindof doesn't fit in the midget category for fisticuffs ends)

We drafted one midget, and frankly, 5ths rounder from two years ago are usually not playing in the NHL.

Nah, he's probably saying that dropping Yannick Weber is a major life decision.

Either case, LOL.
