Well I'd take Sterling over Crabb...I think he has better potential

From today's paper-The Gazette in Colorado Springs

Quote:
Right wing Joey Crabb, who graduated with Sterling in May, is in negotiations with the New York Rangers
http://www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1319066&secid=3

No financial terms of Sterling's deal where disclosed other that it's a 2 year deal which is the norm for players between 22-23 signing an entry levrel contract

That certainly will be a valid comparison. The NHLPA site hasn't got it posted as yet.

The NHLPA site usually doesn't post the entry level contract info unless the player is playing in the NHL.The Atlanta Journal Constitution or the Colorado Springs paper which covers Colorado College will probably have the salary figures in the next few days

I emailed the Colorado College beat writer-Brian Gomez about the Joey Crabb situation. He is surprised Crabb hasn't signed and he would be shocked if Crabb didn't sign with the Rangers by August 15

Regarding,Crabb and Brett Sterling.Apparently the CC coaches feel Crabb has better pro potential than any player on Colorado College.Good size.Physical.Goes to the net. That comes from the beat writer

Nate Guenin came very close to signing with the Rangers last summer.Columbus Post Dispatch 1/13/06

Quote:
Nate Guenin spent much of last summer agonizing over whether to begin his professional hockey career or remain at Ohio State for his senior season. The New York Rangers hold his draft rights, and they wanted him to sign.

"I didnít really enjoy the summer much," Guenin said, "because that decision weighed on me every day."

At one point, he was ready to sign with the Rangers and pondered when and how to inform the OSU coaches. But first he went home to suburban Pittsburgh for a weekend, and while there he had a change of heart

August 15 is less one month away

Wow, I really like the Sterling contract.

Kid has loads of offense in him and is just like a little dwarf out there.

Reminds me of a less feisty Gionta. I've seen Sterling go to the net as well in college. I don't know if I'd take him over the Sertich kid, but Sterling is still a nice signing, IMO.

We better sign these guys if we feel they are prospects. I will be bummed if we come up with another Umberger situation.

Corey Potter's MSU teammate David Booth signed with the Panthers

Quote:
Booth agrees to terms: Left winger David Booth, a second-round pick in the 2004 draft, agreed to a three-year entry-level contract.

Booth, a 6-foot-1, 215-pounder, played 36 games for Michigan State last season, getting 13 goals and 22 assists
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/...hers_0721.html

Booth could have become a free agent on August 15

Another four year college player signed today

Quote:
The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with defenceman Tom Gilbert.

The Bloomington, Minnesota native joins the Oilers following an outstanding four-year career with the University of Wisconsin Badgers

Agreed I like Crabb, Potter and Guenin. Id give Walsh a ECHL contract so it dont go against the Rangers 50 contract limit.

Are the Rangers trying to sign these guys or are they cutting bait because they are running close to the 50 contract limit.

maybe they are waiting for this supposed arbitration explosion of dominos to see if they can take advantage of it and then see where they stand contract #(of 50)-wise.

speculation speculation. that's all we got. Best to just wait and see what comes up in the news.

I think these are good kids, but we're talking about project 5-6 defenseman (at best) and a maybe a guy who becomes a third liner (4th liner is a bit more realistic).

I don't think we need to be mentioning Umberger and blowing it on this one.

It should also be noted that the Rangers have approached these guys about contracts, it's THEY who want more money and considering their max projection, I can't imagine what they could possibly think they're worth.

At the end of the day I;m sure the Rangers want to sign the kids, but they're not going to overpay for guys who even at best have pretty limited upside.

The Rangers have been trying to sign Joey Crabb since Colorado College's season finished.Look at how many players the Rangers have signed to entry level contracts since April. Most of their prospects got $500,000-$600,000 NHL salaries except for Lauri Korpikoski who has a cap number of slightly over $1 million with bonuses.Crabb's teammate Brett Sterling has a $585,000 cap #.The Rangers and Crabb's "advisor" can't agree on the value of the player

All three players require two year entry level contracts

I was pretty high on Crabb & Guenin, but it would appear that the Rangers are not rating them very highly. Of all three I'd miss Crabb the most.

What exactly, besides being a first round pick, has Korpedo done to deserve rookie max salary? I would give Dubinsky more and he got under 500k didn't he?
