If he does, inb4 he trades away the pick which ends up being Mackinnon for O'Reilly.

Oh man could you imagine if Burke traded Columbus's 2 Firsts and a 2nd for Phil Kessel.

My head would explode

I bet you Burke trades two of them away.

The highest ones.

I'd say that is the 2nd most outrageous possibility next to Burke coming in to accelerate their rebuild.

This is the first thing that came to my mind. I am assuming there are strong HockeyUSA ties between JD and BB.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see him get an interview at the least.

I'd like to see what he can do without any pressure to win...

Just draft.

I'm not so sure about Brian Burke in Columbus as some of you are.

They already have John Davidson, who is a talented hockey guy on his own, and is the 'Head of Hockey Operations'. That seems like a position Burke would want, as it gives him hockey autonomy. We also do not know if Davidson's hockey philosophy fits in with Burke's hockey philosophy; Davidson might want to do what he did in St. Louis, which was a slow and patient rebuild.

On the community side and for Columbus as a market, I do not think you can do any better. Brian Burke, out of the available general managers, will legitimize Columbus.

They also do not have the media that Toronto does. I do not see guys like Steve Simmons and Howard Berger or whoever giving him trouble like he saw in Toronto. He can be behind the scenes and just do his job.

We'll see.

I wonder if Bob McKenzie has been considered as an NHL gm ? One of the smartest and accurate insiders. How would he do in Columbus ?

It would be interesting to see a good ownership group (unlike the one we had) actually allow JFJ to complete a rebuilding plan. I think without the extreme pressure, he would do a good job.

Me too. I think JFJ was a victim of corporate pressures.

he was also a pretty bad negotiator both in terms of trades and getting guys to sign resonable contracts. it would be interesting tho to see how he could do.

When you have no choice but to do exactly what the owners want you to do (get a #1 NHL starting goalie), your options are VERY limited.

Basically payed full retail price for both Raycroft and Toskala and both those guys werent legitimate #1 NHL starting goalies, because after all, what team in the right mind would willingly trade one away since they are so hard to find?

Both of those were good backup goalies that we were hoping could be number ones.

I really hope it's Burke. That being said, I hope he's interested in Kessel for two first rounders and a second.

This.

But in their case, Burke and his media flamboyance will give the club more media presence than what they ice on most game nights.
