Duchene would cost far far far more. He has been our best player this season, and with Stastny a UFA next year, the O'Reilly situation, he is untouchable. No chance he gets moved.
Any guess at what you guys would ask from us for O'Reilly?
20 year old defensive first center with offensive ability. Think Backes, Bergeron, etc.. not quite at their level yet though. Likely going to be a Selke finalist a few times in his career. He'd work great on our top line imo.
Anyways.. Grabo would not be the roster player going back (although I do think he will be shipped out of Toronto eventually).. if they wanted a 5.5mil center they could just sign ROR for that, but they don't want to do that.
MacArthur + Finn/Percy would be my offer. But I think they would rather a dman as the roster player..
Edit: to those saying OReilly isn't the guy for our top line. Our wingers are so good that we don't need that franchise centerman. OReilly would bring elite defensive ability to Kessel's line. Think Bozak but much more rounded.
He's not nearly as skilled as Bergeron and he's 6'3 225lbs like Backes.
When a centre like ROR is available you gotta get him. They don't appear on the trade front and you always gotta draft one.
Let's see if nonis can negotiate ROR away from Sherman with giving up a lot of significant pieces.
I would think Gardiner would be the main piece going the other way.
Gardiner+ who though?
I would do it for that price, due to boatloads of cheap defensive depth we have, Gardiner is great but you have a similar player in Rielly who will soon make the team, so it won't hurt THAT badly.
I'm somewhat out of the loop, is ROR most likely going to be traded? Or is it all speculation?
I believe McKenzie and Dreger said in the first period break between Montreal/TB that the Avs were shopping him to eastern teams for a roster player+top prospect.
Edit:

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
As we discussed in Insider Trading initial trade talk has Colorado requesting a roster player and top prospect for O'Reilly. #TSN

All the rumour mongers are saying trade, but they say trade for basically everyone in the rumour mill to create a buzz. Although, when a player holds out this long you know something is up.

There is some speculation that ROR has asked for a trade. McKenzie said he contacted his agent and the Avs and neither party responded to him.
Dreger said hes talked to an Eastern conference GM and the Avs are shopping him to Eastern teams. The asking price is a roster player and top prospect.
Well if he is being shopped, I'd love to pick him up.
I'd be willing to move Gardiner+ for him.
So would I actually .. It's a situation when the Leafs can trade from a position of strength, having so many quality D prospects, to help up front (like the Schenn trade)
Something around Gards + Bozak would be ideal for us
I get the people saying they don't want Gardiner traded, but this is the reason why the Leafs have stockpiled defensemen within the organization. It's about dealing away depth for a much needed position. Both Gardiner and O'Reilly are great young players, and this could be a deal that benefits both teams like the JVR trade.
Of course Gardiner shouldn't be considered expendable, but with Phaneuf, Liles, Franson, Rielly, Finn and Percy in the organization I don't think it would hurt the Leafs all that much to lose him.
Wonder if we could work something out where we give up Gards+Bozak for O'Reilly+ 1 of their offensive d prospects. Probably have to add something else on our side depending on what prospect.

His value is not very high at the moment, And if we can just recall the Flyers game last night; They couldn't move the puck 10ft out of their own zone last night.
I just think and top 4, Puck moving, Point producing defenseman is more valuable than then getting another 2nd line centerman.
I like O'Reilly game but we're spending assets on a player that we would like to have but don't really need. He's not a 1st line center, he's never shown that offensive game in his career to show that he has that potential. The blueline is just as important as the forwards. Honestly, some of you guys are so clueless in addressing priorities.

55 point, 21 year old center playing with McGinn and Downie, hasn't shown "that offensive game" right...
