I'd give it to Rivet because he's more senior, he's obviously a vocal leader and nobody is more well spoken for in the media than Craig.

This guy has a job at TSN waiting for him once he hangs them up. He's really good.
Haha, you said pooped!

Yes, and more than even the mighty Ribeiro, and he's a lot better at faceoffs.

We shouldn't have let him go, IMHO... Perrault was good. Always. And he still was in Nashville, actually.

Stop throwing around Steve Begin's name. To be a captain, you have to have more than a good work ethic, and have to be more than an overhyped fourth liner that message board guys love.

If you know the rules, for a captain to chat with the ref, he either has to be on the ice already or stay on the ice for the next shift. When this matters most is late in the game, so it has to be someone who can play in any situation (PP, SH, down by a goal, protecting a lead, etc). Begin doesn't work. Wouldn't want him on the ice if we're losing by a goal or on the PP. Koivu can play in any situation. Carbonneau could. Same with Muller, Keane, Damphousse, and Rivet.

By the time Koivu retires, Crosby and Ovechkin will both be habs players. It will be a battle between them...I say Crosby.

That doesn't mean much. There are 3 assistant captains who can talk to the ref as well.

BTW: What's this talk of Koivu retiring? Is it a real possibility? I've been out of the loop for a while.

If the players choose: Rivet

If the management choose: Bégin. They are sick and tired to be blamed because Koivu doesn't speak French.

For the moment Rivet, no doubt. He played a really great season, he's the best defenceman in defence since January 2004. It's gonna be his 10th season with the habs and he's a true warrior, never afraid and always going to the war for his teammates.

In a near future, Chris Higgins or Kyle Chipchura.

i am surprise that none of the Saku's groupies have suggest that the Habs never give the '' C" again to a player , and that the team just has to give 3 "A " only .

Because Saku is the and soul of the team , and that he fight....bla...bla...

I wouldn't go that far,but I doubt they'd award the captaincy next year if SK retired. The 2 players who I get the impression are the most respected are Rivet and Souray. Both in their last contract years, depending on how the team develops, either could be moved. I think those 2, along with Begin and kovalev might all see games wearing the C. Not ideal, but for one year, I think they'd go that route.

What's the latest on Koivu anyway? Last I heard, he wasn't progressing very well and still had to use his fingers to open and close his eye.

Agreed 100%. When was the last time you saw a 4th liner as captain?
And honsestly, people complain that Koivu is not vocal enough, but I don't see Begin talking half as much as Koivu.
Plus (correct me if i'm wrong) the guy barely speaks english, which I assume is the language most used in the dressing room and with the refs.
Don't get me wrong, I love the guy but he wouldn't be our captain.

Last I checked, Koivu's not paid to score. He is a playmaker.

And to me, 'making' a goal should consist of both goals and assists. In that case, Saku has 4 less points, in almost 200 games less.

Plus Saku brings a very solid two way game as well.
