I found him quite good during the deadline... wether you believe he has contacts or not is up to you, I think it just makes for a good discussion.

He also said on a forum:

-Habs in the race for Shanny
-Wings only want a pick for Lang

Only a pick is not ideal. We need to unload salary.

if I was Gainey, I would just hold talks with Detroit without trading until Shanahan makes up his mind ...
I don't want to create a 3 M $ cap space for Detroit so they can up their offer for him

Code hasn't been following hockey as long as some of us. He sniffs around and believes anything he's told.

Code works for one of the agent firms. He's got real contacts and is credible.

it's like this,
the wings covet shanny more than lang. if they unload langs contract without getting a contract in return, they'll save roughly 3.9 milllion giving them money to resign shanahan and perhaps one of the UFA goaltenders.

if the wings don't trade lang, it will be difficult for them to resign shanny with his contract demands but if they do get him they'll have to settle for a crappy goaltender like belfour who make the minimum.

atleast this is my understanding of the situation.

wings situation is A, B or C
A)lang + shanny + crappy cheap goaltender

B)shanny + good goaltender + prospect/pick attained from lang trade

C)lang + good goaltender

considering lang is not needed, he becomes expendable..the wings would like to go with option B.

from a BG point of view:
would the habs rather risk a big multiyear contract with shanahan or go with the big center they need for the 2nd line who has only one year on his contract? i'd go with the latter. but this would make the ribeiro signing questionable, granted...1.9 million isn't too bad for teams like washington and the penguins that will be hardpressed to make the cap minimum.

for the benefit of both teams, i can see a trade between the habs and detroit happening.
NYR should get lost.

Code worked for both the NHL and Fox Sports so I do believe he has some contacts over the league.

That's the problem...Detroit's looking to get rid of his salary.

And Ribeiro, incase we acquire Lang for our 2nd line centerman ... signing Mike for $1.9M would seem to imply those trade discussions ended few days ago.

I'd feel cheated if we went after Lang instead of Shanahan. Though Lang could possibly be the 1B center we need, Shanahan has all of the traits to make this team better.

if getting Lang means dumping Ribeiro I'm all for it.

I think Lang would be a great addition to the 2nd line C spot and wouldn't take a spot from our young guys. I would like Shanny too but either would be great, thinking about it now I almost prefer the acquisition of Lang just because C is where we need the most help and there's only 1 year left on his deal.

Higgin Koivu Ryder
Kostytsin Lang Kovalev
Perezhogin Plekanek Zednik
Begin Bonk Murray

I like it very much, the one line that struggled last year replaces Bulis and Ribeiro with Kostytsin and Lang, HUGE upgrade. GO BG
