Am I the only one wondering why we wanna sign a 37 year old when we can give that ice time to a young guy so he can develop??

It's not like if we are strong cup contender or something

Anyone else heard what Joel Bouchard said on CKAC today?
He said that shanny was the kind of guy that would change a prospect's career. Could shanny teach a thing or 2 to lats about using your body to score goals? Would he help ribeiro by putting is passes in the net? Put perez Ribs and Shanny together and you will see some great plays. 3 players that are completely different will make that line very dangerous.

Who cares what we give him this year and the next we wont be in cap trouble for those 2 years. In 3 year ok we will need our money, right now we have enough space for a guy like him.

Giving him too much money will make Mr. Gillet unhappy, and Bob will end up knowing it...

Bonk and Zendik will become UFA after this season and that free up Shanny money for next year. Yeah we would be tight this year but who cares , it's always sold out.

we can talk about all the issues and everything we see and read but everything beyond that is pure speculation.

So this is not a question of whose right and whose wrong. Thats a dumb game to play. Its a question of how you interpret everything that has been spewed at you. Which sources should you believe and which ones should you not believe and draw your conclusions from there

Honestly, who the hell knows? Lets not kid ourselves

That's not a source and it's not a link. It also proves nothing beyond your own interpretation of why he was there.

Until it's confirmed "Shanahan signed in .... " don't pretend you have a clue , your guess is as valid/invalid as anyone else's here.

You really think that Shanahan would go to LA just to bring his kids to Disney Land... 5 days into July and him being a free-agent? Use your head a little.

Shanahan was in Los Angeles Tuesday, talking to the Kings, as he continues to explore the free-agent market. - http://www.mlive.com/redwings/storie...040.xml&coll=1

I guess the Kings he was talking to were the guards outside the Magic Kingdom. My bad for pointing out one of the only logical reason he'd be in LA at this time of year.

Sorry, hate to be the one to tell you, but you've blown your credibility out the window in a couple of recent threads.

No one's listening.

I was told of a 5 year plan. It's been 5 years and without any additions we're probably not making the playoffs this season. I have every right to be pissed off and if you don't like that, well then too bad son.

Shanahan is effectively an amazing leader... A real one!

I doubt Lats is ready for the NHL and Grabovski has never played the N.A. style of game... We have a place for Shanny, he would make our team better... Kostitsyn is the kid that will crack the team IMO.. Grabovski could send Zednik out of MTL at some point in the season.

This is not like we are in bad shape like the past years where we had guys like Perreault Juneau, Sundstrom, Dackell, Bulis, Dagenais in the line-up... and Zednik as our best winger.. Some of you will remember me almost crying so that management plays the kids a few years back.. I couldnt stand the deadwood and the poor quality of the show.. Now Zednik is possibly one of our worst wingers.. We replaced the deadwood by quality players and our rookies made us a way better team... With a more confident Perezhogin and a Kostitsyn coming, we will be in good shape offensively, no need to rush prospects like Latendresse... Adding a guy like Shanahan would make us one of the best teams in the league, not only cause Shanny brings something we lack on ice (physical presence, pure scoring) but his leadership will help our kids a big deal.. As much as a respect Koivu, he isnt a natural leader like Shanahan is.

Buddy, I think you're too pessimistic to be honest. Our team is fine the way it is. Higgins, Plekanec, Perezhogin, and Ryder are almost all guaranteed to have better seasons, plus we'll have Kostitsyn and perhaps Latendresse cracking the lineup next season. Boston beefed up on useless UFA's, outside of Chara, Toronto got Kubina and Hal Gill, oooh scary. Ottawa got worse as well. Buffalo's the real threat in the NE next season. Personally, I think the Habs will do just fine, with or without any new free agents.

For those that says it`s too much, think about what the Habs have lacked for so many years now. All the things about Kovy being lazy, about Koivu being too gentle to lead, about guys like Ribs, Ryder, Bullis and Zednik not giving their full effort. All of this would be over. Shanahan is a f***ing warrior and leader of men. He would take the team by the balls, bring them over to an hospital so they can get a backbone drafted to them.

found this on habfans.com take it for what it's worth, but there's a whole thread on this. someone even confirmed that flight
the name of the thread is "inside scoop on Shanahan" if some of you guys want to check it out
Quote:

I was incharge of flight AC 388 (montreal-Boston) tonight, and low and behold, Brendan Shanahan was on the flight. I was able to get a few quick words in with him before leaving for Boston. He said he was in montreal to talk to Gainey and see where the team is heading, and Gainey's plans for the Habs. He didn't go into any details as to what exactly was said, however as he pointed out, the media, and pressure of winning in Montreal is NOT a factor for him. he was with his wife, and I jokingly asked her if she liked it here in montreal. She said she loved it. Which for some of you might be comforting
Anyways, the interesting part, was this:
There was my colleage with me, a concerige (takes care of VIPs) asked me to upgrade him before I started boarding the flight. Before Shanahan got there. So I did it with pleasure, seeing as how Gainey was wooing him, I figured I would as well As I handed him the boarding pass, I said I would give it to him if he'd wear the CH this upcoming season, as a joke. I laughed as well as he and his wife, and gave him his boarding pass, he then said, well if thats how we are gonna measure it, might as well give me a few upgrade then....
