His offer would probably just get beaten by another team. We might not see overpayment for O'Reilly, but I expect demand will get us a fair return.
Like i said, there will be a bidding war, but one that will start much much lower than it would have....

If that were the case, why not sign the likely bridge contract similar to Matt Duchene? If there is no risk in regression, he wouldn't be holding out for some big contract. There are no absolutes with 21 year old players and saying otherwise would be completely foolish. O'Reilly knows it, O'Reilly's agent knows it and Colorado knows it. If it was a sure thing, **** it - hook him up with 5 mil x 7 years. There is obvious concern about a fluke year, especially given his draft pedigree. Colorado is justified in being concerned - there are very few players drafted in the 2nd round that perform the way he did for an entire career.

I would do Grabovski + Finn + 2nd; if O'Reilly comes signed.

I wouldn't move Gardiner; unless it is 1 for 1.

Unless things changed in the last 5 days
sounds more like what I would expect from negotiations. 1st offer from team is low in both term and salary. Counter offer high...

Why would the Avs even consider that? ROR wants less money than Grabovski gets.

You mean the one with a high draft pedigree, who put up top years in his first two years and looks to be back to himself this year? Tell O'Reilly to go sit on his couch if he doesn't want to play. Letting him out would only put you guys in a significantly compromised position come Duchene negotiations in a year.

Heard a rumour that the Avs are asking for Zibanejad or Silfverberg for O'Reilly...

...if that's the case I'd do either (though I'd prefer to send Zibanejad, and I think the Avs would prefer to have Zibanejad).

Make the deal, Murray.

Pretty sure we can find a better deal than that.

Would rather let ROR rot in the KHL and prove a point....

Zibanejad + an expendable roster player is probably the best we can expect.

Colorado interested in Weiss at all?

Not saying Panthers fans want to trade Weiss (some might), but I'm wondering value-wise if Weiss and a prospect like Quinton Howden or Colby Robak/Alex Petrovic gets it done...

Totally right. And I'm pretty sure that's exactly where we are.

And I just want to add that I'm not sure they actually do intend to trade him. It's not their style for it to end up in the Twitter feed and on TSN while they look. It could just be a tactic to show ROR look at what people are willing to offer for you at the price you want. Not much? Now get over yourself.

Depends if he'll sign and what for. Probably not since Avs probably have to reset their rebuild and will want to start young.

I can't see a pending UFA be all that attractive for Avs.

Like I said before, if it drags out until the draft, I can see the 'Yotes being interested, with RO'R and Yandle being the main pieces. Especially if it looks like they are going to relocate...

How about ROR for Grabovski+2nd. Leafs take 1.5M cap hit.

~55 point center, good defensively, faceoffs etc @ 4M is a steal. Grabovski's favorite team growing up were the Avs and his favorite player was Forsberg, he was going to try and sign with them if the Leafs didn't sign him, so I don't think he would have any objections.

Leafs add the 2nd, sign O'Reilly to a 3.5Mx5 year deal (that's what he wants right?).

Leafs do this because ROR might be a player with ~65-70 point potential. Avs get a good center back in return at a great price and a 2nd...likely to be anywhere from 35-45.

Good? Bad?

That'd be a perfect fit for us... Seems like a bit of a long shot at this point though.

Yotes gonna give him 5 x 5? Doubt it.
