That's the thing... they clearly don't view him as a franchise cornerstone despite what the media says. Reportedly wasn't in the final 3 choices for the captaincy and we've heard that it was implied he "overachieved".

My point is a 2nd round pick seems to have basically zero value around here. Not that I thought that was a good deal for O'Reilly, but the chances of drafting a good NHL player in the second round is pretty decent, and my example was what the Avs did in 2009.

ROR is extraordinarily rare for 2nd round draft picks, at least considering his age. Who else compares? Bergeron is one.

Is it against the rules for a gm to tell another gm to offersheet one of his players so he could match it if the player signs?

O'Reilly was the 33rd overall pick. So like a late 1st, he was projected to go in the 1st round on many lists.

I guess the NHLPA would not really like that.

And ROR will never ever sign an OS that is not completely ridiculous.

He asked for a trade. If he signs a decent longterm OS the Avs laugh and match it and keep him.

That whole OS will not happen....
He will get traded for the best return Sherman can get. (It will be putrid for Avs fans)

No, I think Colorado wouldn't even match 4*5 but I forgot that O'Reilly has to sign the offer.

And for those who scream offersheets are in poor taste how many of you even remember that the flyers offered Weber that humongous contract.

If O'Reilly signs an offer sheet that Colorado was going to match, why not just offer it directly. Unless there is a question of O'reilly not wanting to play in Colorado...

The Avs would most definitely match a 4M dollar per contract. Problem is O'Reilly apparently wants 5M.

The term for that is ''Collusion'' which is illegal.

Weber, Eriksson, Backes, Krejci, Schultz, Stepan, Hamonic, Subban, Simmonds, Kulemin, Lucic, Neal, Stastny (hey look, another Avs 2nd pick).

I get it, the odds are you won't draft a successful NHL player, but the Avs are the last team that should be scoffing at a 2nd after drafting O'Reilly and Stastny.

Sekera is Buffalo's best all around defenseman on most nights. He's been used in a shutdown role last season and part of this season, and he's faced high QOC, and grades out well. I think he's been underused offensively, and has some room to grow there.

1st or 2nd pairing defenseman, overall 2-4 on the roster. If he's paired with an offensive minded partner, he can hold down his end. If he's the more offensive of the pair, he's can rush the puck.

If I was the Islanders if toss an offer of Okposo + Nino, assuming the reports of Nino being unhappy are true

Zibanejad+Greening or Wiercioch is what I'd be willing to give up.. I think that would be a pretty fair package?

What say you?
