Gauthier stats points to another Benoit Pouliot. Point a game player in his draft year, came out of nowhere to be highly ranked. Where's Gauthier been playing last 2 years? To be mentioned as next Couturier or Primeau wants to be a hell of a reason he wasn't in Q.

When I think of Gauthier, for some reason I think of JVR. Any basis in fact for such a comparison?

How about another (bigger) Bergeron ?

Edit: Already been said by MXD.

Bolded points to the fact you obviously never saw him play.

I was referring more to style of play and upside. Haven't seen Gauthier so no idea about his game other than the little I have read.

Every said so far -- I mean, everything INTELLIGENT said so far (Benoit Pouliot is NOT an intelligent comparison) -- is quite descriptive.

Oh....

Last year, he wasn't playing in the Q -- wanted to keep College Eligibility.

The year before, he wasn't junior aged, so that's pretty irrelevant...

k...but I was asking if there might be a comparison with JVR not Pouliot. I haven't seen Gauthier play so just wondering.

Edit: Just reread your post. Misread it the first time, but still wondering about the JVR comparison.

Just asking...when the heck is the draft this year? Why do I read June 28th and 29th....when I'm sure I heard that it would be one day, June 30th?

I would assume that checking the venue website would be the best bet. iirc, all rounds are being done in one day this time, right?

Yeah, good idea I'll check. Though Carey Price did answer June 30th for 7 rounds.

It's been decided to be 1 day for June 30th. MacKenzie, Pronman and a few others confirmed it a while back.

My crystal ball says June 30th and the Habs select 1st overall and I don't want to ruin the surprise pick.

Just had confirmation from Mark Edwards also that it's on June 30th...and he also said that it should start at 3PM....Doesn't make any sense....

Just want to see the Prudential Arena website, and they did reserve the date of the 30th....the time is still TBA though.

3pm? Is the 1st round being done at the draft tables as well? That's fairly late.

Mark Edwards said that while he's not sure, he thinks that if it's 3PM it's because TSN asked for it that it would be at that time.

Honestly, I'd be really surprised if it sticks that way. It has to be at Noon.

haha, +1

I didn't read all the stuff about Gauthier, but he is a very intelligent player and his play is all about positioning and vision. He has a good skating stride for his size and he always finds a way to make points without getting noticed.

To me, his biggest weakness is that he is not a gifted goal scorer. However, it is an excellent passer and uses his physical to protect the puck and push away opponents.

Some will not like him because he isn't a flashy player, but others will love him because he does everything pretty well. What could hold me back is that he might become a 3rd line player, a good one, but not a first line player as expected for a first round pick. He's the kind of pick from MTL, though.

Amen. I figure we'll pick somewhere between 8th and 16th, so they should be in our range. If we do end up 15-16th, I'd look to move up to secure one.

If Habs are picking 8, there's a chance one of Jones, Mack, Drouin, Barkov, Lindholm, Monahan or Shinkaruk will fall to them. That'd be nice.

That group is my top 7, so yeah, obviously if one is there at 8 you take him.

But if all 7 are gone...then it would be quite intriguing. There's about 7 guys that you can bring up as worthy picks in the 8th slot in that scenario.

He didn't come out of nowhere. He was drafted later in the 'Q draft because he was threatening to go the NCAA route.

He might not have been a high profile like Mackinnon, Drouin, Duclair or Grégoire back then, considering he only had 21 pts as a 15 year old in the MAAA, but he was on the radar. It took calls from Crosby and Lecavalier to convince him to go to Rimouski this year.
