The playoffs are completely fine how they are. I'd only be fine with (proposed) realignment from last time if the playoffs were kept the same.
I'd rather see something like this.
Columbus to the Southeast
Colorado to the Pacific
Winnipeg to the Northwest
Stars to the Central
Only problem is the Wild are being left in the Northwest.

Unless they were going to completely change things up and add a south division. Where the Stars would be with Nashville, Tampa, Florida and Carolina.

I'd much rather see us in with teams like Chicago, St.Louis, Detroit, Minnesota, etc, than those teams. I cant imagine myself getting excited over such "rivalries".

Nashville and Carolina I could easily see myself coming to dislike. Tampa/Florida on the other hand...blah.

Minnesota/St. Louis is almost a must for realignment for our division/conference imo.

I definitely like the idea of ditching East/West and going with just divisions.
Travel would be a lot more balanced compared to the lopsided East/West.

Would love to be in a division with Tampa, but would prefer the Central group as a whole.

I'll take losing Detroit to get out of the Pacific.

Wait, does that mean we'd be in a division/conference with 7 teams?

If so, that's a huge win for us. It's completely unfair, but in our advantage this time.

With other Central teams AND in a group of 7? Stars are by far the biggest winners if this goes through.

Here is Dallas' proposed conference:

New realignment proposal apparently has Stars in "conference" with Nashville, Chicago, St. Louis, Winnipeg, Minnesota & Colorado.

So when they expand ... Seattle obviously goes to the other West conference ... does that mean Detroit comes back to the "West" when/if Quebec and or Toronto get a team?

Some kind of wild-card is being discussed for the two 8-team divisions. I'm not sure of the outcome, though
Not sure how a Wild Card helps the discrepancy, but Ok.

A one game play in for 4-5 in each "East" conference I guess.

Never even thought about Colorado possibly being in our conference/division. I'll definitely take it over what we currently have though.

I never looked at the uneven numbers in the divisions as being unfair. Back when the Patrick had 6 while the other 3 had 5, it wasn't really a factor. Whether Philly, Pittsburgh, NYI, NYR, NJD, or Wash, they all played the same schedule so it didnt matter. And only a couple times was there a real difference in points between the 5th place team in the Patrick (missing the playoffs) and the 4th place team making it in say the Norris. There was no rhyme or reason to it though. It was simply a matter of every division taking their turn at having the stronger teams or more depth. You put it under the sh** happens and the world aint always fair column.

What they could do though is a crossover. They do it here in the Canadian Football League. When the 4th place team in one div has more wins than the 3rd place team in the other, they take that spot. So if we finished 5th in our division with say 89 points while L.A. finishes 4th in their div with 87, we would move over to that division for the playoff rounds.

I have no problem missing though if we do have more points and miss. Finish top 4. That's it that's all.

Memo sent to all teams... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=416887

Will be two conferences with four divisions. Top three teams in each division earn playoff berths, fourth seeds will be made up of wild card teams aka top two records remaining. Meaning, one division could have 5 teams and the other 3.

First two rounds will be divisional. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3. For the #4 seed...

Quote:
The two fourth seeds would be made up of the wild-card teams. The top division winner based on regular-season points in the standings would face off against the lower-ranked wild-card team. The other division winner would play the higher-ranked wild-card.
So third round will be Pacific winner vs Mid-west winner and Central winner vs Atlantic winner.

I like that they preserved the greater structure of the East/West conferences. Looks like they took the problem of who makes the playoffs seriously. This should also promote the division rivalries with the first 2 rounds being guaranteed to stay within the division. A good solution overall I'd say.

And now all of a sudden we're in the "Mid-West" division? The hell kind of a name is that?

It's as close as you can come to the way they did it before this 1 vs 8 nonsense without replicating it exactly I guess, so I'll take it.
