Many people questioned the New Jersey Devils when they signed the Sedin twins and Patrick Kane as free agents. However, they proved to everyone that it was the right decision by winning the 2016 Presidents' Trophy. The Presidents' Trophy wasn't enough for the Devils, however. They wanted more, and they got it. The New Jersey Devils brought home their first Stanley Cup since 2003.

First, the Devils took down the Florida Panthers in six games. Then they swept the Ottawa Senators in a series that included two overtime wins for the Devils. In the Eastern Conference Finals, they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in another six-game series. Up against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Devils scared everyone by winning the first three games, and then losing the next two. It looked like the Devils might choke, but then they routed the Jackets 6-2 in game six, to clinch the cup. Henrik Sedin was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy for his outstanding offensive play - 27 points and +15 in 22 games.

At the NHL awards, Devils goaltender Leland Irving took home the Hart trophy, the Vezina trophy, the William M. Jennings Trophy (shared with Brian Elliot), and the Ted Lindsay award.
Sounds like the exact opposite of the 2012 cup final for the devils.

Haha, just realized that.

2016-17 Devils Lineup:

D. Sedin (90) - H. Sedin (89) - Kovalchuk (90)
Henrique (83) - Shinkaruk (86) - Kane (87)
Zibanejad (79) - Josefson (80) - Skvortsov (80)
Tedenby (79) - Hodgman (77) - Clarkson (78)

Larsson (84) - Hamilton (85)
Doherty (82) - Sauer (83)
Gunnarsson (82) - Greene (82)

CupChamps at his introductory press conference.

After disapointing season, Washington welcomes new GM

The Washington Capitals have hired a new general manager after a long stretch of dismal seasons. "I am starting the season from the 2012-2013 regular season after the draft. We will be rebuilding in Washington, and no decision has yet to be made regarding our star players. Alex [Ovechkin], Niklas [Backstrom], and Mike [Green] among others are still members of our organization." the new boss said at the press conference. "Depending on our progress thru the first twenty or thirty games of the season, depends on how agressive our rebuild is. We have large offensive surplus, while our defense could use alot of work. Expect us to use this to our advantage when going after pieces to improve our defense." he continued.

How I will work this dynasty: I will publish updates daily at around 6-7 pm ET. I wil play/sim 20 or so games per day. All trades/transactions will be included in the update. I can be very detailed in my postings, please tell me if I'm too detailed! I will post the league leaders in goals, assists, points, wins, save percentage and goals against average. Will post my update tomorrow at around 6 or 7 pm ET.

I actually will be doing a Washington Capitals GM instead of Winnipeg. They seem to be the popular team to do right now because of their sluggish start. I've seen people do several things with the Caps (reload, re-build, re-tool). I am leaning more towards totally gutting the roster. First post likely tomorrow or Thursday night.

Is there anyway to start a Dynasty with all the rookies on their respective teams? Like Yakupov on Edmonton and Galcheynuk on Montreal? Every time I start a new one they're in the draft and I don't want them to be.

Seriously, I'm going to be so pissed if theres not. First I have to manually change rookies potential because they're all 2.5 yellow stars (I don't have online to download the roster updates) and now this.

Is it possible to trade for players if they aren't on the block? I reallllly want Kane and he never made it to UFA status.

NOTES:

Stars General Manager Mike Modano commented on the off season challenges on a golf course.

"The contract talks with RFA Michael Sauer were terrible. He wanted too much in both term and salary. He has improved tremendously with our team (to 84 ovr) but he has only played a bit over 100 regular season games and was placed on waivers by New York Rangers last spring. I seriously considered not signing him at all and instead let him rot for the season as a qualified RFA since no other teams were interested in him for the salary and term he demanded. However, to my disappointment there was no UFA D-men that I could've signed to replace him. For an example, the contract of Leopold and Regehr, two other defesive defensemen, are ridiculous." (In the end Sauer and Stars agreed to a 3 year deal at 4.930 M)

"We also overpayed Chris Summers for the same reason (2 years at 4.000). I do truly hope and believe they will cash in their paycheques with the level of play that the cheques should require", he added.

Stars' other big re-signings in the off season were RFA Jamie Benn (5.900), UFA Derek Roy (6.000), UFA Brenden Morrow (2.850), UFA Jaromir Jagr (2.600), RFA Brayden Schenn (1.600) and UFA Tom Poti (1.720)

Modano also commented on the signing of Teemu Selanne.

"In mid-August we learned that Teemu decided to play one more year and that he had fully recovered from the injury he suffered last spring. Unfortunately, we were already up to 50 contracts at that time so we had to make room for him (Selanne). The only solution was to trade Fiddler who had some interested from other teams because of his good play in the playoffs last season. So now we have both Selanne and Jagr on the same team. That's really something special and should put some butts in the seats."

But why did you sign the likes of Hecht and Belanger, both injury prone and old, when Fiddler was already on your team?

"In hindsight I messed up. I signed one player too many in July and I signed them because I felt we needed depth, both in the NHL and also in the AHL as we really do not want to ice Ryan Garbutt for more than 10 games per season. I'd also like that the Texas Stars could be more competitive than they were last year. In the end, we really wanted Selanne when he became available in mid-August and we had to make a trade and Fiddler was the only option, as you really can't trade the guys you just acquired, and because Vernon had interest from other teams. When it comes to Hecht and Belanger, they are here, on one year deals, because they are low risk. If they go down, they go down and we just call up Vincour, Chiasson and Rosén to replace them, that's called depth. We have only about 16 contracts for 2014-2015 so next June we will once again take a look at our team and see which youngsters can step into the NHL and start assemble a team from there, just like this year."

What number will Teemu wear since no. 8 is retired by this franchise?

"You'll have to ask him but my guess is he'll wear number 13."

Loui Eriksson said he considers it an honor to play with a player he grew up idolizing back home in his formative years.

"He's such a great player and he's still producing. It's impressive to see. It's pretty cool to be able to play with him next season. He's such a good player."

Jamie Benn, the Stars' top center, also holds Selanne in high esteem for a number of reasons.

"It's pretty amazing, what he's done over his career and definitely late in his career. Since I got into the League he's still been dominating. He puts up ridiculous numbers at his age and it seems like he can play forever."

The January 21 2013 rosters (Or something around that date). I did edit the overall rating of the prospects but did not touch their potential (except for Barkov and Ristolainen if memory serves me well).

In a few years time that should be quite a draft class

WSH Caps update!

So. After an abysmal start (once again) to the season of 2017-2018, 15-20-5, I finally decided to get rid of Neuvirth who plain out sucks now. (83 OVR playing like 70 OVR.)

To LA: M. Neuvirth, 2018 1st round pick (VAN), D. Quirk (no idea who the hell he even was )

To WSH: J. Bernier, 2018 6th round pick (LA)

Now Bernier (85 OVR) has played 6 games for me and won 4 of them, and the losses came because my offence didn't quite work. Looking good, hoping to gain a SC contender status! (Hopefully didn't jinx it right there.)

More to come!

EDIT: NNNNNNNNNOPE. Missed the playoffs with a record of 36-35-11. But I like this team better with Bernier than Neuvirth. Better luck next year. I ain't even mad!

Just started my Washington Capitals Gm and first day on the job Montreal comes calling
To Wsh: 2013 2nd
To Mon: Tom Poti
The first several months saw several key Caps missing significant time w/ injuries (Backstrom, Brouwer, Green, Schultz).
Despit the injuries, on Jan 1, 2013 the Capitals lead the SE Division by 11 points over Carolina. The caps sat 9 points behind Montreal for first in the East. Ovi was a key part to the caps 22-12-4 start as he lead the NHL in goals with 25. Overall Wshington sat 3rd in the east and hungry for more momentum in the next few months heading up to the trade deadline.

The Capitals failed to keep the momentum from from 2012 and were 4-6-4 in January. Alex Ovechkin saw a slump of his own scoring just 3 goals in 14 games. Washington still maintained 3rd in the East and had a 5 point lead on Carolina. "It just didn't go our way in January," said the GM, "We are struggling."

February saw a blockbuster trade, Corey Perry was shipped to Philly for 2 1st round picks and youndster Scott Laughton. Washington got back on track in February and took a 33-22-7 record into the trade deadline (good for 3rd in the east). "We are being cautiosly optimistic," said the GM about trade outlooks for the team, "all things are on the table come deadline day."

The Capitals struggled mightily in March finishing the month with a 36-31-9 record. That puts them just 2 points ahead of Buffalo and Carolina for 8th place. On the flip side they are just 3 points behind Winnipeg for 1st in the division. Many speculates that im the Caps don't make the playoffs, the Ovechkin era is over in D.C. "If we don't make the playoffs," said the GM, "certainly we will have to evaluate our roster moving forward."

End of Regular Season Report:
The Capitals won 5 of 6 to make the playoffs with a 41-32-9 record. It is good for 8th in the eastern conference. They only lost the SE Division by 1 point to Winnipeg. "Well we are relieved for sure," said the GM, "for now that is." Alex Ovechkin will claim the Rocket Richard with 45 goals

Eastern Conference:
1. Montreal v. 8. Washington
2. New York Islanders v. 7. Boston
3. Winnipeg v. 6. Philadelphia
4. New York Rangers v. 5. Toronto

Western Conference
1. Edmonton v. 8. Calgary
2. Detroit v. 7. Minnesota
3. San Jose v. 6. Los Angeles
4. Vancouver v. 5. Columbus

Headlines:
Ovi's last run with Caps?
7 of the 10 worst from 2012 make playoffs

Minnesota defeated the New York Rangers in 6 games to finally bring the cup to the State of Hockey.

Here is the end of the season statment from the gm
"I feel that this first year went very well. There were some positives and some negatives at the same time. I am really excited for my first draft with this organization. All the fluff aside, I think we could use a bit of a change of culture here in D.C. I met with the amateur and pro scouts to evaluate market value for our players and learn about all of the great 2013 draft prospects. Everything is on the table at this point. There are no unrouchables in this organization."

Update on my Washington Capitals Be A GM:

As nothing seems to turn this team around, as I sail in the waters of mediocrity, I have no interest to be updating here. I'm on my 8th year now and if I were to post here, you guys would just get bored, it's just so frustrating. If I start winning, I might post a few times about the Caps. Most likely won't. I might just start a new team after this and see how it goes.

I might just start a new team after this and see how it goes.
I'd actually be interested in it, as opposed to another dynasty that wins the Cup after a year or 2 and sails off into the sunset!

Canucks add grit to a forward line made up of skill players. GM Dwayne Johnson sends F Jordan Schroeder D Jason Garrison and an unsigned center prospect to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for upcoming UFA F Antoine Vermette and D Zybnek Michalek.

Lineup looks deep but not much size up front. Thinking of moving Tarasenko for some size

Shinkaruk Drouin Kessel
Gerbe Kesler Tarasenko
Sweatt Vermette Hansen
Chimera Hodgman Zubrus

Michalek Edler
Bieksa Hamhuis
Tanev Hainsey

Lack
Elliott

Started a new BAGM with Columbus. They have a terrible prospect pool outside of Murray and Dansk. They also have about 20 centers and like 6 wingers in there whole system. Didn't want to do a complete rebuild cause I've done that in the past and in 4-5 years I can't afford to resign all these 85OVR 22 year olds who want 6+mil. Was pissed to see that NYR as nd LA firsts weren't mine so I traded some picks and players for them. Really didn't make too many significant moves, signed Tim Connolly and Robbie Shremp plus about 6 guys for my AHL team. All the AHL guys were young with OVR's in low 60's but good potential. I was thinking we'd be a bottom 5 team, sell some UFA's at the deadline for prospects or picks. Come deadline day Im in first in the entire league, so only make s few minor moves to free up players who weren't producing and I wasn't resigning. End up finishing 2nd in west and faced the Flames in the first round. Was up 2-0 when Mason got hurt(he was sporting a great GAA and save%) also lost Wisniewski and Brassard, end up losing in 7. Wasn't mad cause I didn't expect to make the playoffs so got a better draft pick then making a cup run. My AHL team who has only 5 guys over 70 OVR ends up winning the Calder cup. The Rangers finished with the worst record so I'll have a top pick after all.

Post about the mediocrity! Break up these boring cup winning dynasty posts. I'd rather read about a team that struggling than a team that won a Stanley Cup with the same players as everyone else who uses a dynasty.
Edit: Hell if it makes things entertaining I'll start a dynasty full of goons and play as Philly, like they're known for. If only the AI would instigate fights.
