Not sure how either fanbase will react to this proposal but both players are struggling to find the back of the net this season and both fanbases are quickly growing impatient. Okposo is three years younger and is signed cheaper for a few more years but Stafford's had the better production.
He probably is. But Okposo's a bit younger and only has a $2.8M cap hit as opposed to Stafford's $4M so I thought the value was pretty close despite Stafford probably being the better overall player. I'm going on Okposo having some potential still and the hope he can play better elsewhere but I agree with you, Stafford probably is the better player at this point at both ends of the ice.
Fair proposal for sure. It makes sense hockey wise, but you're dealing with the Islanders, this does not make sense financially.
Well, Okposo's salary does rise at the back end of his deal. Next year Stafford only makes 0.5m more than Okposo, and the year after they'd be paying Okposo 4.5m. Stafford's deal also would take up more space against the cap, which, with the actual salaries being very close anyway, might be enticing to a floor team.
Well, I seem to have gotten mostly positive responses so that's a start.
I saw the other proposal, Clutterbuck for Okposo after I made this one. I like Clutterbuck but I don't think he has the offensive potential Okposo still might have. He's a great third line RW but top-six is questionable. I know the Isles would like a RW to go with Tavares. Stafford's easily got Clutterbuck beat on the offensive side and he's actually admittedly become a pretty responsible two-way forward. He just can't find the net right now. It's time to move him. He's been a productive player and has good size but I fear he's not cutting it in Buffalo anymore.
To my knowledge, Isles fans are frustrated with Okposo too. He has gotten off to a bad start as well. I'd take a chance on him though. A change in scenery could help him out as well and I'd love to see if he'd be able to produce with our younger forwards who Stafford hasn't been able to with (Foligno and Ennis).

Fair value-wise? If not, who needs to add?
5 pts on the season for Stafford, 4 pts on the season for Okposo...both are struggling.
Meh...I think Snow passes. Why pay an extra $2m for Stafford's 1 more pt?

Next season KO's actual salary goes up to $3m. Isles worry about Grabner+ Okposo's contracts in 2014-2014 when they are in $4m+ territory.

Because he won't keep shooting 0-for-40? The guy's career shooting percentage is 11.6%, he'll start working his way back to that mean. He's snakebitten right now and just needs to see a single goal go in the net. You think Brad Boyes looks good on Tavares' wing, imagine Stafford. I think he'd score 35 in an 82 game season with JT.
I like Okposo, but don't think I'd do it from a Sabres perspective. Everyone who paid attention knew Stafford would become the whipping boy once Roy left. He's slumping and snakebitten, but it's not yet time to throw out the baby with the bathwater. I think this would be another in a line of moves designed to purportedly make us "tougher to play against," but actually make us a worse hockey team on the ice. Pass.

Okposo has started every nhl season but one slowly.
Like Stafford is the Sabres whipping boy, Okposo has become the whipping boy for some Isle fans, who hoped he'd build off last season's 24 goals. They give him no credit for his aggressive puck pursuit, going to the dirty areas. Unlike those fans I'm not favor of moving him, just to move him.
As for Tavares wing, Snow and Cairns were at last night's Sound Tiger game, with Cairns on the bench. Strong efforts, very physical games from both Nino + Nelson.
We are more likely to see one, maybe even both given a look on Tavares wing instead of a trade.
