You guys are talking about benching the team's top goal scorer based on make believe defensive lapses after the team lost a game due to horrible puck luck.

It reaches the absurdity standard of a witch hunt.

Did Yakupov cheat and fly the zone on Vancouver's overtime winner?

Maybe we should bench Jordan Eberle.

Give it a break. I suggested sitting him for a period if he continues to make these mistakes. Not send him back to Junior.

And that was a terrible suggestion, given he was one of the best players on the ice last night.

I see English isn't your first language.

So let me say this again. He continues to make mistakes in his own zone, take stupid penalties while not putting up points then he'll be benched.

I never once said bench him because of last night's performance alone.

Let me say this again: he has been better in his own zone than Jordan Eberle. He's also been better in the other team's zone than Jordan Eberle.

You can be as grammatically correct as you'd like to be but if you advocate benching Nail Yakupov for any period of time and you don't advocate benching Jordan Eberle, you are on an irrational witch hunt.

P.S. You see that English isn't my first language.

Where did I say I wouldn't bench Eberle?

Fine.

But I don't think benching Yakupov or Eberle is going to do much to solve our scoring woes.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Scares me too because inevitably he messes up.

Ah yes....we are now on the 'benching' bandwagon. Excellent. Expect one of these threads after each loss, might be a different player but they will come out in spades because we all know it is about 'accountability'.

If you are an 18 or 19 year old player and making mistakes and we all have to 'be patient about the rebuild' then you play them, teach them and live with the mistakes. Vets who are just playing terrible should be benched because they are not better than their replacements.

As for defense.....I was alarmed by Kruegers comments before this last game indicating that it was the forwards fault we got owned in Columbus. The same forwards that are dead last by a mile in even strength goals.

I can't wait until all the young kids really play some defense and come down low on every play, then we will really see the offense stagnate. Watching the Oilers we very rarely these days have a 3 man offensive rush when we get puck possession. At least one forward is going down deep on each play as instructed and though that supposedly helps defensive play it hurts the offense.

That's funny, watching the game live Yakupov looked more and more aimless as the game went on.

He was backchecking well generally, but offensively continues to drift.

Maybe he back checks, but something about standing around looking lost seems to be counter productive.

Also worth mentioning Prv. Kid has some fine work ethic out there.

Yeah from my view PRV looked great last night, really using his speed and physicality, still same old problem that he doesn't generally look like a threat to score.

I don't know if spacing in general is a problem on this team or what.

A+. Was at the game last night, and it was by far the best they've played this year. Freaking goals against and real tough breaks and unbelievable goaltending down at the Dallas end. But tons of Grade A chances and a lot of guys playing much, much better. Kid line as great despite lack of production, Eager was a force, Belanger a beast on the dot and played well, Petry fantastic after a brutal start, and Dubby was solid despite the weirdness around him. Frustrating game to lose, but I saw some very good signs of a turnaround. I think Colorado is in for a bit of hurt on Saturday.

Instead of always focusing on the negatives, I'll try the positives:

1. Dubynk looked good again, the shots that got past were either flukes or incredible chances. I also liked the fire he was showing after the goals.

2. The first line was dominate in Dallas' zone. Did they score, no but they were buzzing all over the place. If they keep that up, the goals will come.

3. Bottom 6 is shaping up nicely in my opinion. The 4th line was huge energy and I'm really digging Eager's play as of late. I hope they can keep that up.

4. Justin Schultz is amazing.

5. Response to the last game. They came out hard and shot the puck. This says to me, anyways, that Kruger's got their ear in the dressing room.

We're still in the hunt and .500. The team will obviously need to get the offence going but if they continue to put out efforts like that, I think it won't be long until results follow.

i'm not going to get down on the kid too much, but c'mon...Yak was easily one of the worst players last night.
just a brutal game from him...he contributed nothing, except helping Jagr add to his NHL goal tally.

wrt to Belanger, also have to say - I wonder if he's getting his confidence back.

There was one time, can't remember if it was the 2nd or 3rd, where he came down the right side and actually held the puck for a while, doing a bit of stickhandling.

I almost fell out of my seat.

He's played pretty well this year, imo. And very well considering the busted up foot he's playing on.

*"Hey Farva, what is the name of that old event in Salem....."
(*Super Trooper reference)

Very impressive outing to the Oilers, some bad bounces and some excellent goaltending by Dallas. Those games are common for every team, it was our time last night.

If we want our offense to improve we need to improve our defense. We need to bring in another bottom pairing guy and a top pairing guy. You swap out Nick Schultz and Ryan Whitney for Keith Yandle and Cody Franson and I guarantee our whole lineup produces more. I dunno why Tambo brought in a Smid clone to help improve our d, while trading out a good two way d. Theres only enough room for one d man like Smid in the top 6.
