JJ to Pens

Granted, Blue Jackets just assigned Kekalainen as the new GM, so I doubt any major moves like this would be made, but for discussion sake, what would it take?

Kekalainen has the opportunity to breathe new life into the team’s rebuilding efforts with 3 first round picks. He wants to emulate the Blues model, what better way than to get some sought after puck moving defenders that PGH has such as Morrow or Despres.

JJ would be the perfect compliment to Letang. Can play 25-28 mins per game.

Once again, for discussion sake what would it take?

Despres/Morrow ++ ?????

Pretty sure the only way Columbus gives up JMFJ is for a top-line scorer. Since Pittsburgh doesn't have any to spare, I'd say this is a dead end

I like JJ but I don't think he's a good partner for Letang. CBJ obviously likes JJ because he's logging astronomical amounts of ice time, so I don't see them trading him.

No thanks from Pittsburgh. We won't give you fair value for him because we don't really need him.

Id really like Pitt to do this, IMO he would be a long term partner for Letang, LH shot big, physical with offensive upside.

I just don't see Columbus and Pittsburgh being a match here in this regard whatsoever. Columbus needs to build with JJ.

If you are Pittsburgh, you trade those D prospects for forwards, NOT another puck moving D man. Makes no sense from Pittsburgh's end as well.

And we would only accept an overpayment.

Seriously, the OP's premise is silly. "JK wants to get young PMDs, so let's trade JMFJ!" WTF?

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

I don't think Johnson is available given his importance to the team relative to what teams would be willing to give up for him.

Ownership has stated and demonstrated that they are willing to spend to the cap if it means icing a competitive team. The problem isn't money, it's that guys like Brassard and Umberger get contracts in excess of $3.5 million.

Because none of them are ready now, and none of them are as complete as JJ

CBJ won´t really seek to trade their new GUY right on the heels of their old GUY and if I don´t see for what from Pittsburgh, but mad props for finding one of Crosby´s friends to trade for. Eat your heart out, Kulemin.

I'm not sure which guy Eklund has had rumored to be going to Pittsburgh more over the last four years - JJ or Hemsky.

I thought Crosby already had his BFF on the team and he was traded for Hossa. Isn't Colby his BFF?

Given that the new GM is from Finland, if they plan to rebuild the team, I would suppose that he's like to get his hands on Olli Maatta.

I see Brassard getting traded before Johnson.

Well, I think Davidson hit a homerun with this hire. Jarmo was nails when it came to scouting STL and drafting. His resume is pretty extensive with winners - Oshie, Backes, Peterangelo, Tarasenko ...

They got the right guy at the right time. With three first round picks in a deep draft as this, they need to make sure a home run is hit here and with his track record of uncovering talent, I don't see why it can't happen.

Sorry for the change, but ...
