Andrei Loktionov - Another great pick in a later round and on the cusp of being an NHL player.
Maixim Kitsyn - decent late round pick stuck in a crummy situation in the KHL.
Michael Schumacher - pretty great value so far for a 7th round pick.
Nikolai Prokhorkin - solid 2nd round pick that was able to hang in the AHL as an 19 year old.

There was also Moller, and Hyka who are European but drafted from the CHL, so they don't really count in this discussion.

I don't get the Kings not having a thorough scouting profile from Europe. Every one of those players besides Braun has expressed interest in coming overseas and playing in N.A.. Would you rather the Kings draft highly skilled European players and then have them stay overseas and never have an interest in playing in the NHL? I think the Kings have done a great job of identifying European players that are willing to dedicate themselves to making the team that drafts them and helping it win hockey games and that's huge when it comes to drafting from overseas.
The other factor about Braun is that while he was drafted with DL as the GM, DL had just taken over from Taylor and the 2006 draft was done by Taylor's scouting staff, which was replaced by DL's crew (Futa, etc.) afterwards.

Good point. So that means every European that DL and his scouting staff have drafted has either played or shown a willingness to play N.A. hockey. Which is a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.

You could also add in free agents Ersberg, Dravecky, and Mikus who all played either in LA or Manchester... And Franson who while aquired in trade came over and at least attempted to make the NHL.

to replace Zubrus (injury), Friday vs Flyers. Hopefully he doesn't run into Luke Schenn or Simmonds along the boards

I want Loktionov to win the Rocket Richard and Hart Trophy multiple times throughout a NHL Career , just not on the ****en Devils.

Goodluck Loktionov !

I will be watching the game.

Just saw that! The lockout and new CBA seem to have done some crazy things to market value for players... I'm now dreading what the return will be for Bernier...

The Pens are my second favorite team and I try not to miss one of their games. To say Tangradi didn't fit in or show anything at the NHL is an understatement. I hope he can put it all together in the 'Peg, but I don't think he'll be more than a 3rd line player, if that. He's lived on his reputation for awhile now. I'm not heartbroken to see him go, and am happy the Pens got something for him, considering they were going to send him down, which would have put him on waivers.

It's not the market value of the players, it is the market value of the draft picks. Prospect pools get deeper and deeper and will continue trend that way.

There is absolute legitimate talent in the 2nd and 3rd rounds available...and way more than there was 8-10 years ago.

2001 notable 2nds and 3rds

Tim Jackman, Derek Roy, Tyutin, Popovic, Cammalleri, Thorburn, Pominville, Budaj, Plekanec, Patrick Dharp, Jay Harrison...I am reaching big time on some of those too.

2000 notables

Nick Schultz, Winchester, Kopecky, Kurtis Foster, Bryz, Stoll, Lilja, Vermette, Paul Martin, Dan Ellis, Mike Rupp, Kurt Sauer, Yanick Lehoux, Dominic Moore

There are way more legit NHLers coming out of the 2nd and 3rd round these days which makes GMs reluctant to part with these higher picks.

And DL/Futa have made a killing in the 2nd round (Simmonds, Clifford, etc.) I'd say he does better in the second than the first.

absolutely, since 2007 we've got some gems from second round:

2007: Simmonds
2008: Voynov
2009: Clifford
2010: Toffoli
2011: Gibson
2012: no picks

I guess only Gibson is the question mark here

Hoping Toffolli is the real deal, he would make us a sure playoff team if we can score 10-15% more goals in a season.

Looks like he was sent back to Albany:

Not being able to play wing means he has no place on the Devils roster. They basically wasted a 5th round pick because he's going to bolt in the off-season

Pretty much. At the very least they will retain him as an unsigned RFA if he bolts for Russia during the off-season, kind of like what the Kings have done with Moller and Holloway.

The Devils had to make room for Ponikarovsky, who is replacing Zubrus' spot on their roster, so Loktionov was the logical casualty for reassignment.

Maybe I am wrong on the timing, but I could have sworn the Devils traded for Poni before they called up Lokti, which would lead me to believe that he just didn't fit their schemes for the short practices he may have had with the team.

Please correct me if I am wrong here.

Loktionov was called up earlier in the day. Ponikarovsky was acquired later in the evening (EST). The TSN transactions list is from newest to oldest, which shows that Loktionov was called up first.

Thanks.

Well, at least Lotki didn't have to travel that far going back and forth like that.

I watched half of the game today. He looked okay but nothing special. A few times they put him with Henrique <sp> since they played together in juniors together.

In 9:31 of ice time, he was a -1 with no points, no shots on goal, a two minute minor, and won four of eleven faceoffs. Not exactly a good debut.

I saw the end of regulation when the skirmish behind the net occured involving a few players. Loki got 2 minutes for 'kneeing'
I never heard that called before...

The Devils play a Style or brand of hockey like the Kings do.

Loki doesn't fit that style. He needs to play on a larger ice surface, in a wide open system.

Loki is going to fit right in on a KHL team.
