You know there is always the chance that Poti goes some place and has a marvelous season. I just don't worry about this kind of stuff anymore. Poti was just never a good fit for the Rangers, nor they with him.

The guy has talent and ability, it's the mental factor again. The desire to be a player that matters. Always the most important reason as to why someone reaches or does not reach their potential. It's similar to the Lundmark thing.

Given the right situation and motivation players like this can turn things around and string together a few good seasons.

I hope that happens. Talent and ability are terrible things to see wasted.

He was a solid defenseman last year and even played a little tougher getting in opponents faces sometimes to stick up for his teammates. I really like the way he played. I think he never got going offensively last year but you can see its there with his rushes up the ice, good slap shot and passing ability. Poti didnt shoot enough it seemed at times and passed the puck off at times where he had the shot. But thing I like best about his improved play was that he didnt get caught up ice much if at all. He picked his spots well when he wanted to join the rush, always being able to recover and get back for a counter attack. Sure he wasnt producing for the money he was getting but he certainely did a good job. If Poti came back I wouldnt be upset. Rather see Rozsival traded and Staal get the chance to take the spot. If he doesnt do good in camp give the spot to Pock.
Poti also wants a raise over his pay from last season. What he does should not cost more than $1.5, and that is generous. He is nothing more than serviceable in all facets of the game. He did improve his defensive game, but at the cost of his entire offensive game. He are building a better team and there are parts that will be much better than him, and hopefully better this season. Glad he's gone.

Yes they can, i just dont want to see that happen with Poti and the Islanders. How much would it sting if somehow Poti scored an end to end big goal for the Islanders against the Rangers. How freakin ironic would that be for the Purse Boy Haters.

Poti would be bringing a lot of baggage from Broadway to the Island, especially his swinging purse!

Oh well, the Rangers will not have to worry when going onto the corners against the Islanders, unless Purse Boy is carrying a satchel full of rocks.

That was great.

One part you forgot... that will never happen because he couldn't hurt a fly, yet alone carry a satchel full of rocks.

it's unlikely but not impossible for Poti to have sort of renaissance. after all he'll have the boot of Ted Nolan up his @$$ all season and that man can probably get more out of Poti than Renney ever did (not difficult consider what we got out of him). I'm personally disgusted with the bit about how interested he was in becoming an islander. maybe he was the one sabotaging US? something smells.

Smells like a purse with lots of makeup in it has been removed from the Ranger locker room.

Finally the Icelanders doing something that puts a smile on my face. Not sure if I could dislike Poti anymore, but him going to the Island doesn't hurt.

did he really lead the team in blocked shots---i thought that was more like Orts...he also lead the team in brilliant giveaways and savvy mishandled passes leading to odd man rushes. Damn he'll be missed.

BTW: didnt we acquire him to avoid Fishsticks getting 'em?--ahh the old York fiasco.

''Tom Poti is a perfect fit for us,'' Islanders GM Neil Smith said in a statement. ''I spoke with him several times over the last week and I was really impressed by Tom's desire to become an Islander."
'From the beginning of free agency, I told my agent that I wanted to see if something could be worked out with the Islanders,'' said Poti, a member of Team USA at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City. ''The opportunity to be one of the veterans on such a talented young team is something I wanted, as was the chance to play for a great coach like Ted.'
'
Desire to become an Islander? Are you kidding me? What a ****ing traitor... cross town rivals, Rangers have plenty of youth too if you didnt realize (not that i wanted him to stay by any means... but jees). A bitter end to a so-called career with the Rangers, good riddance, and hey TOM!! Dont forget your crochet equipment so you can make a new purse on the island!!

that sound you hear is the stampede of islander fans on the way to the supermarket to stock up on peanut butter.

The only possible reason for this signing is that it was done

to take pressure off of Yashin. There is noway fishstick fans can boo both of them as loudly and as strongly at the same time. They will have to split there energy and therein will be some sort of a reprieve for Yashin.

Watch...

he'll be paired with a competent defensive defenseman, be allowed to roam around, and get consistent PP time leading up to a decent season.
