Jets to the Western Conference and Central, Jackets to Southeast in the Eastern for this year.
I'm withholding comment on this, mostly because I don't feel like giving a certain group (that's convinced that I'm anti-Winnipeg) anything to quote me on.

I'll withdraw my bottom 5 finish predictions if the Jackets land in the Southeast.

The division winner lost 6 more games than it won...

This is the NHL's method of screwing us out of another high draft pick.

I like the division we are in now, but I would be happy if we could move to the Eastern Conference and play most of our games in the Eastern Time Zone.

CBJ to eastern Conference

If you guys were to make the move, do you guys think that you would place better in the standings in the Eastern Conference than in the Western Conference?

Hard to predict, but one thing I can say, the Jackets are to far East to be in the West... Columbus is a 3 hour drive from Pittsburgh, I'd like to see what the Pen organization would say if they had to fly to Western USA/Canada for a week every month.

Given our record against the East, historically? Unquestionably.

I think that Columbus would fair well in the East and would set up some good rivalries. Pittsburgh, Buffalo, maybe the Rangers (they've had some donnybrooks before). The Jackets all-time record versus the Eastern Conference is 83-76-13-15 (source - BlueJackets.com). I think the reduction in travel alone would make this club more competitive and might put them on national TV more often than once or twice a year.

The players association won't agree to this (barring the promise of Western Expansion teams in the not too distant future to even things out.)

There's a reason baseball's bucking a lot of tradition/pissing off the purists by moving the Astros to the American league. Players really don't like the idea of unbalanced divisions/conferences

Jackets in the East? Beneficial from a travel point of view. From a competitive perspective I don't know. When I watch the Eastern teams play each other I see a more flowing, more exciting game. To me the East is "SEC" the West "Big 10". Do others see this difference?

I noticed it a long time ago. Most of the offensive stars (Crosby, Malkin, Kovalchuk, Ovi, Stamkos) were on the East. while all the best d-men were on the West. I remember that the whole team Canad defense at the last Olympics was from the Western conference. Only Pronger played for Philly, but he just came there from the Ducks.

The west is more physical to be sure. Not sure I would describe the east as "more flowing, more exciting". More individually skilled perhaps, less defensively committed as a rule. Certainly would not cast either as better.

Paradoxically the CBJ has had trouble with faster more open teams, as you might find in the East, but has a decent record inter-conference.

I know they would complain and they have every right to complain just like you guys do right now. I think you guys could form a good rivalry with Pittsburgh if you guys move... It would be great to see imo.

The west is a rough division that's for sure.. I hope you guys make the move instead of the Red Wings. New fresh start with new management and new Conference? sounds like something fresh and something to be excited for in Blue Jacket land.

I'm genuinely excited.

According to HNIC, we're proposed to be put in a division with Carolina, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Washignton.

Not sure I like this.

I prefer it more than being in the West. That never made sense to me.

Is Quebec City happy that the new West has two openings for expansion?

I'd rather be in conference 2 but as long as we're in the east I'm good.

Can't see how the players would approve this when they shot down the previous 16-14 realignment because of so called unfair playoff qualifying. Also if the league expands to Quebec or if the Yotes end up moving east then they'd have to do it all over again.

.....besides, I'd miss the Nashville trips!

Pretty cool. That is a daunting conference. Excited to see us in a better situation travel-wise.

Maybe move Nashville to one of the east conferences? Not perfect but they are the closest and it makes more sense than keeping Detroit or us in the West

I like the idea of a four conference format, but the previous iteration (with the jackets in the expanded central (plus Minnesota, Winnipeg, and Dallas) I liked the most. We already have some rivalries going there. This new proposal is okay, but being in an 8 team division with most of the top teams in the East is going to be rough.

Also, the previous version was nice because it looked a lot like the old Adams, Patrick, Norris, Smythe setup. I have so much nostalgia for that, it was like each division was imbued with its own culture and particular meaning.
