Yep, this summer they will be. They modernized the scoreboard before the 07-08 season too so it isn't old like you said. I actually love the scoreboard we have now. The only gripe I have is that the actual video board isn't big at all but I love the simplicity of everything else. The "who's on ice" feature that they added a couple of years ago is great too.

Interesting. Good to know. Wonder if they'll stick with the multi-sided style, or go with one of those new enormous double sided screens. The problem with the latter is the people at the ends of the arena get shafted.

For now, it's set to be 4 large HD screens facing each end of the arena w/ 3 LED rings above/below them displaying game info/ads/etc.

Right, knew I saw that rendering before. Looks like a sweet scoreboard. Those new Flyer uniforms do look a lot like Buffalo though!

I like that scoreboard. Much better than the current one. Which is too choppy. imo.

Our arena ribbon board will be at the bottom of both bridges.

would be pretty cool if they did a smaller version of what the Cowboys have in their stadium. trying to be different than the conventional areans.

the gallery of 200s are said to have more leg room, does this also apply for the 100s?

There are no gallery seats in the 100s. The 100s are pretty cramped.

I'm just trying to gauge where would be the most "comfortable" seat, other than the folding chairs down by the glass.

If "comfort" is a priority, stay home and watch from your couch.

There's two arenas (that I know of) that already have that style of scoreboard:

Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis

Toyota Center, Houston

Not sure of any NHL arenas that have one, though.

Cramped is an under statement.

I couldn't agree more. I have 2 seats in section 115 row 15 and love the close view but can't stand how little let room there is.

I also have 4 seats in Section 220, Row 1 ( Gallery Seats)

These seats are $125 vs. $132 for the lower seats but I think they are a better value.
More leg room, nobody in front of you to block your view and the TV is a bonus.
You also can see all 4 corners unlike the lower seats.
Get to watch all the replays and anything else you might want.

Granted the 200 level seats aren't as close to the ice but the pros far outweigh the cons.

Houston and Indy's scoreboards are a bit over the top. Rather than trying to find the best size for the arena they just seemed to try and out-do eachother. Montreal is perfect

I wouldn't put much stock in the artists rendering from two years ago. Since the Cowboys unveiled their videoboard, a lot has changed in the arena signage business. I suspect whatever The Garden does eventually get will simply be bigger and better than most everyone else.

Tampa Bays New one looks similar, too

But even if the quality of that screen seems to be really.. good - I don't like the "design" of that scoreboard.. really ugly and just too big

So, they are going to spend all this money on a scoreboard that half the arena won't be able to see because of the bridges? Sounds intelligent.

You mean 15%-20%. Those suckers can view the smaller displays on their side of the bridges. lol

What info should the new scoreboard show on it that the current one does not show?

I'd like to see:
shots on goal by period
goals by period
players on ice with G/A/PIM/rating
hits by period
odd-man rushes
power play/pk efficiency

Basically, whatever they're currently showing at the end of every period as a recap, I think they should find a way to display ongoing.
