Wish we could get a team on the second half of a back to back sometimes.

And on we go to 12/13th place by Saturday.
Even if the Oilers were the second half, Dallas probably would have started the backup against Calgary either way.

True enough. Doesn't change the fact that the last place team is starting to catch up to us.

One thing I have noticed about the schedule is every team we play till april has at least one day off before we play them , the only time we play a team that has played the night before we have as well, I also noticed Calgary gets back opponents that played us night before. So untill april we play all rested teams or as tired as ours.

So we never get a break on B2B. How many times does calgary get the benefit of B2Bs?

Last year I think we played Calgary on the second half of B2Bs 2 or 3 times. The reverse happened once.

They always do, it's unfair that they always get to face a team after they play us and never the other way around.

Well calgary gets La next night after playing us than same thing against coyotes who play us night before this is just next 2 weeks . I personally think its bs that Flames get teams that just played us night before but we get all rested teams. So in 2 weeks alone Calgary gets 3 back to back clubs comming in. Im sure they have had a couple already as well.

That is BS. These game should be ~ 50/50.

well if everyone looks at our schedule till april we never play a tired team can't see how this is a oversight by the Nhl when other teams get their share of teams on a back to back when we do its our back to back as well. Can't see any blowouts by us.

We're definitely dead last at EV goals from defensemen (0 G), but we're not alone at last place (Colorado, Florida and probably a few more). Including the PP I am not sure where we are, but we are not last (COL 0G, BOS 3G, NJD 3G, SJS 4G,stopped looking).

I think the forward situation is more worrying but if the defense continues to rely solely on Schultz PP goals the next 10-20 games it will start looking bad.

i think Yak is just as weird. he makes some REALLY strange plays and decisions.

Yak has to come into his own first before this is even up for analysis in my opinion. we see some nice "spurts" out of him but we really havent seen a game where he looks like hes not out of place a bit.

I doubt the NHL even considers evening things up between geographic rivals in back to backs when they make the schedules up... they probably just limit the number of back to backs teams play to roughly keep it equal but I can definitely see some disparities coming into play based on rink availability issues etc.

Maybe the Flames are smart and get a sneak peak at the Rexall available dates and submit their own available dates so they are all 1 day after the Oilers.

Yak is a rookie fresh out of Junior last season (and just coming back from the KHL where the big ice and style of game is obviously different).

Plain and simple explanation.

He's going to take a while to adjust and will make plenty of odd mistakes by rushing his passes and shots and making plays to people that don't exist.

It'll come though and he'll be deadly when he starts getting more used to the flow and pace of the NHL.

How long will it take? 15 games... 30 games... could take all season to get comfortable and learn to be more patient and actually look at what he's doing instead of just reacting. Then once he gets to that stage he can start "just reacting" again... that's when he turns truly deadly because as he improves he's going to be lethal with his combo of elite passing, skating and shooting.

I can see his future already... with those natural tools all he needs is his brain to slow down a little from his ADHD pace and he's going to terrorize this league.

It will happen though and I'm betting he's a perfect candidate for Krueger to employ his motivational abilities to help him visualize and reach his full potential.

Of all the players the Oilers have I think Yakupov is EASILY the most naturally gifted... yet he may require the most coaching and work to reach his ceiling, not because he possesses a bad attitude but because he SO badly wants to succeed and win that I think he has to learn to dial down his zealousness and think through his actions a bit more than he does now.

NO team is 'poor' in the NHL, something called parity, it's now just who works the hardest and has the least injuries

Just because it's fun I looked up some old, and not so old, stats and I made a ranking based on scoring of the 1st overall picks from 1990 until now (forwards) for their first 13 games in the NHL:
1. Crosby 4 G 14 A 18 P
2. Daigle 7 G 9 A 16 P
3. Kane 5 G 11 A 16 P
4. Lindros 8 G 7 A 15 P
5. Ovechkin 8 G 5 A 13 P
6. Nugent-Hopkins 6 G 6 A 12 P
7. Tavares 4 G 6 A 10 P
8. Kovalchuk 7 G 1 A 8 P
9. Yakupov 5 G 3 A 8 P
10. Nash 3 G 4 A 7 P
11. Hall 3 G 3 A 6 P
11. Stefan 3 G 3 A 6 P
13. Lecavalier 3 G 1 A 4 P
14. Stamkos 2 G 2 A 4 P
14. Hamrlik 2 G 2 A 4 P
16. Nolan 1 G 1 A 2 P
17. Thornton 0 G 0 A 0 P

Yakupov is no Daigle but I still think he's in good company in terms of scoring so far

I forgot that Daigle could actually be good, that's the worst part.

All those claiming Yak needs to adjust to the smaller ice are sticking their head in the sand. He played all his JR hockey in Canada, remember?
Whoever said Yaks biggest problem is he's playing his off wing nailed it (no pun intended). That, coupled with the fact the game is faster and players are bigger in the NHL, are the two biggest reasons in my mind for his "struggles". I use that term loosely because he has 5 goals and 3/4 assists in, what, 13 games?

Not bad.
