Just read that JD has hired Jarmo Kekalainen to be the new GM for Columbus. REALLY good move for that franchise IMO.

Wish we had room for Jarmo here.

I read some posts about Alex Steen around the forums and shake my head. His move to centre certainly hasn't worked out as well as we had hoped, but the exaggerations are a joke sometimes.

It might help if we could get some time for him to bed into the position without playing like total crap as well. As much as we want to criticise his faceoffs, I think people watched the first few games and made their minds up. He is averaging over 11 faceoffs a game in the last 6 games and is winning over 55%.

I don't think he is playing very well, and I'd rather see him back on LW, but next to nobody is playing well just now.

JK just tweeted that the Blues are going back to the original lines.

Good news. I still think that is our strongest set-up.

Me too. I'm still puzzled why we switched it up in the first place, or why it took Hitch so long to do the seemingly obvious.

Yeah, Im happy Redden is coming out too. Hes notched the two goals early, but otherwise he looks slow out there. Russell had some bad games, but he has more impact on a game than Redden at this point, especially since he really fits well in Hitchs system.

With Jarmo being hired as the new GM in Columbus we may see him take a run at trading for some Blues players he drafted.

I wouldn't mind having Jack Johnson and Artem Anisimov.

Would cost a lot though.

Eh, I think their organization should be looking at rental trades to acquire more draft picks, especially in this upcoming draft with the depth of high level talent. Remember 2006 and 2007: Blues had 5 first round picks in two years. Columbus needs to do something like that....fill the cupboards with young talent.

When Jarmo came to STL we did not make any trades with OTT, I do not see him looking to trade with STL. Its really rare for trades within the division, even when it does happen its only minor parts. I cant remember the last time a big name player was traded with in the division (now that I said that some one will probably point out one that happened recently).

Columbus has 3 1st round pick already for the 2013 draft, own pick plus the Kings and Rangers.

For anyone who hasn't read them, I highly recommend the embedded articles that Scott Burnside (ESPN) is currently doing on the Blues. It's a great peek into the day-to-day operations of the coaching staff.

True.

Mason to St. Louis perhaps? If you don't count Nikitin for Russell.

But I think Jarmo would go after assests the Blues traded away. Eller seems a likely target.

However, I think Jarmo will build for the future. Expect Prospal and Aucoin to be approached about waiving their NTC/NMC near the deadline.

Sh724, Jarmo was not the GM, he was in charge of the draft, not making trades.

OK, the Blues started out like gang busters then struggled as their goal tending has struggled. This organization has put together one of the most talented teams in the league. Armstrong is too smart to make trades after a bad 5 game stretch when your #1 goalie is injured and your # 2 has not been sharp since day 1. This is a very good team and it would be a great story if Allen can turn things around. Looking forward to the game tonight.

Been really impressed with Barret Jackman and TJ Oshie this year. Oshie is the best forward game in and game out by a fairly clear margin so far. Jackman's critics (there aren't a ton, but definitely some) have been dead quiet for good reason.

Let's assume that, until the Hawks start losing some games in regulation at any point this season, the Central Division is in their hands. That means the Blues are in a race for the 4th playoff seed. Where do things stand?

4. Blues +4, 15GP, 7ROW
5. Nashville +4, 15GP, 5ROW
6. San Jose +3, 14GP, 5ROW
7. Edmonton +1, 14GP, 5ROW
8. Phoenix +1, 15GP, 6ROW ... -1 goal diff
9. Detroit +1, 15GP, 6ROW ... -4 goal diff
10. Minnesota +1, 15GP, 5ROW
11. Dallas +1, 16GP, 7ROW
12. Calgary 0, 13GP, 5ROW
13. LA -1, 13GP, 4ROW
14. Colorado -2, 13GP, 4ROW
15. Columbus -5, 15GP, 3ROW

Getting to +6 and finishing this shortened season at that mark is like having the league-wide established average of 92 points in a normal season, to put things in perspective. +9 is like having a bit over 97 points in a normal season and that total has never missed the playoffs in NHL history.

Last night was one of the best games I've seen Jackman play in a long time. He was excellent. I've never understood the hate for the guy. When used properly he's a great guy to have. Him and Shattenkirk are excellent together. IMO, they've been our most consistent pairing so far. As for Oshie, he seems to have found another gear this year. He's been our best player by far. The captain should take a few pointers. Backes wears the C but it's plain to me that Osh is one of the leaders on this team.

Jackman is always at his best with a puck mover, which is why his best years were with MacInnis and Shattenkirk. It also makes sense that most of his "haters" came out during the period after Al and before Shatty.

I've always said Jackman is great as long as he doesn't have the puck on his stick.

I second this. He's been excellent this year and was great last year too. The scary part is he's been joining the rush this year and not looking out of place.

Last summer I felt like I was one of the few on this board that wanted to keep Jackman while everyone else was running Jackman into ground with the big hopes of landing Garrison. Jackman brings something that St. Louis seriously lacks in the back, toughness and grit. Any of the opposition can't stand Jackman because he plays in your face hockey and makes them pay the price for overstepping their boundaries. St. Louis has a lot of talented Defensemen but none of them want to do the dirty work on a nightly basis. Why wouldn't the opposition crash the net if St. Louis isn't going to bang it out with them.
