Yea...Unless Larry Brooks (The writer of the article claiming Shanny signed) jumped the gun...he's been known to do it.

The only thing I'll eternally wonder about if this does indeed turn out to be true is what happened to all the $$$ figures we've heard quoted over the past few days? What happened to Shanny's desire to stay in Detroit? If the Rangers get him for $4M/1yr, well, isn't that the same thing that Detroit offered and didn't all of us other suitors put bigger 2 year deals on the table? Nice demonstration of how accurate the rumour mill is, I guess.

That said, it's probably not a bad thing for us if we don't get him. We certainly would have had to cut a salary (Zednik?) to put him under our cap, and if he did need a 2-year deal from us, it would have put us in a lot of trouble for next year's cap follies. So it's not all bad.

NY post: Shanahan sign with the Rangers

The NYpost report that shanahan sign with the rangers a 1 year deal for approximately 4 M

http://www.nypost.com/sports/rangers...rry_brooks.htm

Quote:
The Post has learned the 37-year-old free-agent left winger has accepted a one-year contract worth approximately $4M to join the Rangers after spurning more lucrative offers from both the Red Wings and Canadiens.

The signing, expected to be announced today, comes one day after Shanahan informed Montreal GM Bob Gainey he was rejecting his team's bid to sign him.

at 4,5 $m , that is romoured to be the Habs offer , i prefer them to pass . Ok , he had a good season with 40 goals , but that would make close to 15 m$ for him-Saku and Kovy .

I like our new position ; wait and see ! there are team that are going to need to free cap space ...

Shame on you Bob Gainey for not getting down on your hands and knees and begging. What a sad GM you are

look at this post i just find in the Trade rumour board ;

'' I think the point is Shanny was one of the reasons we didn't go deep... the whole team stunk, but you expect your 40 goal scorer to do SOMETHING in the playoffs... you expect your "power forward" to hit people and drive the net, not play the perimeter... Shanny is still great on the PP but his prime is well past... good luck to him, I always thought he'd retire a Wing... sad to see him go but at least there will be change in Motown... ''

There are also few posts already about his perimeter play , last season .

Now, if only Sykora and Perreault could sign somewhere else, I'd be a very happy camper.

Same. Retiring in Montreal should be a thing of the past.

I could live with Samsanov and Markov though...

Detroit fan, atleast some, will realise next season how important Shanny's 40 goals were and more so the leadership he brings; the Rangers were missing his qualities in the locker room last season; its a great aquisition for them at $4M...

Now go get Sykora, Bob. Clearly only washed up **** will ever come to Montreal if they're given the choice (or rather, if no other team wants them).

No way Shanny wanted to play against Kubina/Chara 16 games. I don't even know why he considered it. He can't deal with that at his age. I guess he figures he can pick up some easy points with Jagr on the PP and/or he didn't like his linemate options in Detroit?

Not sure Shany. signed with NY...

Brooks is known for giving bad info. Reports are he was seen in NY.
that does not make him a Ranger. Why u ask, well he was seen in Montreal on friday to. I guess he s visiting potencial teams.
Well, I might be wrong and he did sign with the Rangers, but nothing has been made official. Habs offered over 4 mil. for 2 years, was nt the holding of Shanahan due to $. Rangers offered less....
Can someone inform me about this.

I doubt if TSN is reporting it and giving specific details (like how he called Gainey to reject his offer) that it's false. Let's just live with it, sadly

The New York Post reports that forward Brendan Shanahan has agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Rangers

I think he'd want more than a one year. I hope, at least.

Montreal offered more and he said no? Then to hell with him...

In the end gotta love Gainey's comment about players wanting to come and play for Montreal now....what players? Bouillon? For Chris' Sake....
