Toronto Maple Leafs @ Carolina Hurricanes | Sweethearts Ball | Feb 14, 1967 @ 7:00 pm

One night only at the PNC Ballroom!

You are cordially invited to watch your 2013 Carolina Hurricanes take on the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs!

Goin' steady for over a year now, nice boy "JR" and his sweetie are still on first base.

Your eligible Carolina bachelors, dance parters, and/or gentleman goons:

Probable scratches:

The Visiting Toronto Mashers, Grabbers, and Assorted Brutes:

van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabovski - Komarov
McClement - Kadri - MacArthur
Orr - Steckel - McLaren/Brown

Phaneuf - Holzer
Liles - Kostka
Fraser - Franson

Game Notes:

Looks like the most logical thing is for @JustinFaulk27 and @J_T_19 to just be each others date? #Valentines
Per a @mikemaniscalco tweet this morning, and coming as a shock to no one, Joni Pitkanen is likely to sit out this game.

From Tal Pinchevsky (a Carolina Valentine's Day name if there ever was one) at NHL.com, the "who's hot" list:

Quote:
Leafs defenseman Cody Franson has provided an unlikely offensive spark with five points (all assists) in his current four-game point streak. Van Riemsdyk has four goals in his last four games and linemate Phil Kessel has seven points in his last four games. … After failing to score in his first nine games this season, Tlusty has five goals in his last three games. He has benefitted from playing on a line with captain Eric Staal, who has 16 points in his current 10-game point streak.
Quote:
Injury report: Reimer remains out with a sprained knee and the Leafs learned that Frattin is also out with a knee injury. Forwards Joffrey Lupul (broken forearm) and Mike Brown (upper body) are out, along with defenseman Carl Gunnarsson (hip) are sidelined as well. … For the Hurricanes, Tuomo Ruutu is on injured reserve following hip surgery and defenseman Joni Pitkanen is questionable with a lower-body injury.

Doin' it right vs. Doin' it RONG.

There are actual people who sit there?

I swear, I haven't been to a game in a very long time when there were more than maybe 5 people in that entire area. Its embarrassingly empty.

Some rumblings that Ellis may start for Canes. We'll know soon enough.
Ellis with the start tonight? Interesting.

EDIT: Per Tripp on teh Twitter:

Quote:
Starting Dan Ellis good move.Needs to play. 1st game after road trip will help team focus. And coming off shutout at home should be confident

I do when we snag some freebies for there! Beats the hell out of me spending $100 on a "valentines day dinner".

Southern folk don't go to no fancy balls.

Excellent GDT, the contrast in quality between them from last year and this year is amazing

A lot of the ticket are bought by companies to schmooze clients. So a bunch of the tickets end up not being giving out on a nightly basis. I'm not sure what percentage of those seats are actually spoken for though... I usually get free tickets from a buddy a couple of times each year. It's pretty awesome, can't complain about the free food and alcohol.

Good call by whoever speculated Ellis would start. I definitely didn't expect it.

The Juice's heart wound up being the last one I did, ironically enough. When I did it, I was at a complete and total loss for anything to put on it.

Wish I could have read your response at the time.

MSmithCanes reports a Nodl-Brent-Westgarth/LaRose 4th line at skate to go along with the other news so far.

This could be a mighty interesting lineup tonight.

Bowman-Jokinen-Wallace 3rd line at skate.

No Gleason and no Pitkanen? No wonder why they aren't starting Cam. He's finally getting his confidence back so why ruin it with that defense.

If Gleason is really out, might as well call Jordan up and give him a shot.

Brace yourselves, we might be setting new records tonight in goals given up and defensive mistakes leading to goals if both Gleason and Pitkanen are out.
