Tampa just can't get enough of Desjardins. Maybe we can re-sign him in the off season and flip him back to them for Jaroslav Janus, or something.

I doubt Tokarski is ever going to live up to his WJC hype but I always liked him. So I'm cool with this.

Love the trade. Don't get it from Tampa's perspective.

Tokarsky will be our backup next season.

No way. We need a better backup than Tokarski.

If you think Desjardins was terrible this year then Tokarski should be a treat. Desjardins had some rough games, but that was to be expected, he got injured and didn't rebound. For the last month, Desjardins has been playing good ad only had a SV% under .913 once in 7-games.

Desjardins could be a solid NHLer (no proof that he can't be.. he's only shot in the NHL was very successful, there's a reason Tampa Bay wants him back). He may not got a shot there either, but he's a lot closer to NHL ready than Tokarski.

However, even though I love Desjardins, I'm a fan of this trade. While he's not as good as Desjardins today, he's still much better than other options and he's controllable for a few more years.

I like it.

He won a gold medal with Team Canada at the WJC and Pierre McGuire loved him. He had a solid first AHL campaign as well, but he's been on a downward trend since. Maybe lack of focus?

Tokarski still projects, IMO, as a good starter in the NHL. Back-up at the least. Can play in AHL next year w/o being subject to waivers.

Haven't paid a ton of attention to the Dogs in the last month, so probably calling him ''terrible'' all season was wrong, but still, he was clearly struggling many times this year.

He was a disappointment overall when you consider what was expected from him. Mayer pretty much stole the job from him at various points.

Desjardins will never be a good goalie in the NHL.

Thats the very first bad trade Steve Yzerman made as a Tampa GM
To be honest I see this as a nothing for nothing trade but how can you be sure Desjardins will be nothing but Tokarski will be something when his stats are:

2-0-0
1.00 GAA
.968 sv%

in the NHL.

My guess is that, with Vasilevski and Janus for next season, there was no room for Tokarski anymore. So he traded him for... something?

How do they figure that? I see CapGeek has his ELC sliding too... but he has 4 full years in the minors... he was born on Sept. 16, though, so are they saying he gets to be counted as 19 for his first year instead of 20?

That would be extra good if so.

Plus there's no room on the 23 man roster.

Desjardins has won the Memorial Cup in Juniors and the Kelly Cup in Professional hockey. He won the MVP of the Memorial Cup tournament and the MVP of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Toraski played all of one good game in the WJC and that was against Sweden. He did win the Memorial Cup (and MVP) though as well. I think he won the Calder Cup as well too.

Your statement is completely false either way.

From Wikipedia :

Tokarski was named to Canada's roster for the 2009 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Tokarski struggled during the tournament, entering the final as the eighth best goaltender statistically, though he led Canada to thrilling 74 and 65 wins over the United States and Russia, respectively.

I'm not saying the trade is bad, I like it. But to say he was good during the WJCs is a damn stretch.

Interesting trade, I don't see Tokarski as our backup next year as I hope we would have someone with more experience but Tokarski should be a solid #3. A Tokarski/Delmas duo could be interesting for the Dogs next year.

In regards to Desjardins, have heard rumblings that he was in the coaches dog house back when he had his melt-down against his former team lake erie. I know he's been inconsistent this year but still has had some very good games despite how bad the Dogs have looked.

I like the deal but at this point it looks very minor. Unless Tokarski picks it up I see a #3 at best.

The capgeek waiver calculator confirms he's exempt.

Exactly. His only chance in NHL action and he was incredible.

Tokarski has had a handful of NHL games and his stats look terrible.
