I would say, for now, it is too early to declare Chris Stewart is back.

If he has a good start to next season, then I will say that he is back.

I might feel different if we were half way through a full season already.

Yep, still too early.

As I said on page 1, he is working harder but still doesn't seem to have much of a plan on offense. His hands and shot have been extremely average and his hockey sense is lacking. Overall he has been wildly inconsistent this season, much like last year. He has also been a no-show in front of the net the past two games which is very concerning.

I didn't expect a full rebound out of Stewart this year. I expected improvement but he was sooo far out of place in Hitchcock's system last year. There was no way he was going to completely get it after an offseason if he couldn't get it after six months of playing last season.

It will be VERY interesting to see what they do with Stewart this offseason if he continues to have a so-so year.

We can't commit to him long term with the way he is playing. He'd have to sign another 1 year extension. They may also look into trading him for a lefty d-man. Heck they might do that this year at the deadline. We've got a lot of youngsters up for big contracts.

Jaskin will be ready by 2014-2015. He could easily replace what Stewart has brought us this year and last year at a fraction of the cost.

Is it time to issue an APB on Stewart?

I would take him in Leafs in a heart bit. A good third liner.

Gunnerson anyone? He's a very sound mobile defensemen, very low maintained and very reliable.

Well he has played great in 2 of the last 3 games. Yesterday was his best game in over a year. He still disappeared against LA, though.

I'm glad he is scoring goals, but he has only shown up one other game this year IMO. He hasn't had bad games, i just think a person with his skill set and potential should play better every night. I am more concerned with how I see him play then the amount of points he is scoring.

If he could bring what he brought last night to every game, he would be one of the most best power forwards in the game. Too bad we won't see a game that good from him until March.

I would note that when his goals are being scored are at key points in the game. He is playing with Berglund and the flavor of the month on the other wing. Hopefully, Jaden Schwartz is going to keep playing like he has been the past couple games. He has looked good. That would definitely help Stewart and Berglund out. Though both have put up their fair share of points. Easier to watch 2 guys instead of 3....

Just goes to show it's still too early.

Stewart had an awesome game last night. If only he could always do that.

That was probably Schwartz's best game. I think that line really likes playing together.

Regardless of anything else, Stewart just looks faster on the ice this season. He blew by that defender for his goal. It was nice to see him finish with authority, too.

Not sure if I'd say top 5 but certainly better than others are saying so far this year.

Without question. I would love to see more of that from him because that guy and that line as a whole was responsible for a few really really good shifts that were draining on the Red Wings' defense in the second period.

I really don't get why some people seem to have something personal against Stewart. He has played well this season for more then one game. No player dominates every game. He has had more good games then bad. He really hasn't been bad this season just not noticeable at times.

He's in better shape for sure, but he is and always will be a streaky player. This is Chris Stewart. He will have dominate stretches followed by decent stretches.

I agree on Schwartz. He played his butt off. It needs to translate into points though or just like when Sobotka is on that line, I'm still paying most of my attention to Berglund and Stewart.

What about the other 75% of his games?

He never really vanished completely with Colorado, just last season. When he's back to normal he will be on fire for some games and then be just another player on the ice. He won't be a liability like last, he just won't contribute much else.

If that indeed proves to be the case, then I'll change certain aspects of my opinion on him for sure. We'll have to wait and see, as the opening pages of this thread suggest.

One thing to note – when he was scoring goals with Colorado, so many of those came on the rush and by parking on the back post for PP rebounds. The loss of 20 lbs and the increased jump could translate to more opportunities off the rush like we saw twice last night. Which in turn will gain him more PP time and should bolster his numbers.

He already had PP time and it will most likely stay the same (if it aint broke don't fix it) but yeah he's looking much faster and stronger around the net. Honestly from this year my only knock on him is just battling along the boards... he's still weak at that for some reason

However he has definitely improved on the defensive side of the puck like positioning etc. which is also a little bit due because of his increased mobility. he's not a step behind like he was last year
