Natural instinct when you're off balance, leaning to the right on one foot is to push down hard on your left foot... It's also very hard to intentionally do that to Karlsson and if he was looking to injure Karlsson this was a pretty dumb way to go around doing it.
Because a huge amount of people on this board are biased against Karlsson and were hoping he wouldn't repeat last years performance. If it were a guy who was universally lived and respected then the results would have been very different.

Matt Cooke is a ninja apparently. Bad things happen hopefully EK is back to his old self sooner rather than later. i read an article earlier from a surgeon that said given the location of the injury and the type (laceration not rupture) it may not be as bad as a typical sports related achilles injury. That or EK is a greek god.
Why are there two options for what each team is expected to say? I'd be more interested to see how many sens fans say no, and how many Pens fans say yes.

TSN guys called it an accident, Brendan Shanahan called it an accident.
Let's not act like Cooke is favored around the league either, 2 seasons ago he got 4 games for boarding Tyutin and the final 10 regular season games and a playoff series (17 games) for his elbow, the last dirty play he made.
If there was intent to injure, Cooke would have at least had a hearing.
I said this in the Karlsson thread, Cooke has worked hard to change his game, I don't think he saw Karlsson and said "time to forget about all the hard work I've done"

Not all of his previous injury causing plays have been headhunting/intentional. He's just in general a reckless player, and then stuff like this happens a lot more often than it does for other players, not to mention his intentional stuff thrown on top.
My take: Cooke is an a hole. Probably one of the biggest cancers currently playing in the NHL. This was not on purpose. I think Cooke was just trying to find his footing. There's no way that with out looking he has the kind of aim necessary to actually make that kind of cut. For all he knows based on where his head his, his skate could've been going through Karlsson's legs and stomping on air.

You keep telling yourself that. Nobody(or very very few, if you want to be technical) wanted him to get hurt, especially in such an awful way. Just thinking about that play is painful, but Cooke pretty obviously did not mean to do it.

It is a hockey play... the dude lost balance and cut Karlsson, how the hell do you not see that? you still insist you need video evidence of this happening and i am going to tell you... you are not going to find it. It's a ****ing freak accident, you know what that means? it is not of the norm.
You are accusing a player of intentionally slicing through another player when common sense and a basic knowledge of physics... oh and the whole human factor shows that this was not intentional... hence the lack of suspension, agreement by the higher ups in hockey that it was an accident/ freak play, reporters and even the majority of us here on HF. Give me factual proof he cut him on purpose? if not then one questions who's really the foolish one.
Look at when Karlsson goes into the boards. Look at his feet. If his right foot hits inside-to-boards, Cooke's skate is nowhere near the Achilles. Cooke has no way of knowing/seeing which way Karlsson's foot is going to turn. Lebrun had a blog on it this morning. It really sucks, and I'm sorry for Sens fans, but it wasn't on purpose.
It seems like the Cooke supporters aren't understanding the position of most people who are unhappy with the play.
Very few people are suggesting he was targeting his Achilles and knew exactly what he was doing.
He went into the boards with one of the leagues top players, lifted his foot and brought it down against Karlsson's leg and I think that was intentional.

I'm not sure but I think he might have been trying to hurt Karlsson there. Its a tough call because that's a routine play but the way his skate just hit Karlsson there then he brought it back the way he did, I think maybe he was trying to. Lets remember, we're talking about Matt Cooke here, not exactly a top candidate for the Lady Byng.
Cooke makes a non hockey play. I mean what in the world is his foot doing there? Obvious intent to commit something (trip,slew foot, etc) but i dont believe it was to be that serious.

he lifted his foot as every other player does in a pinning situation. His foot came down when they hit the boards. Please skate into the boards with your foot lifted and see what happens to your foot, reflexively.

Players, GMs, coaches have all said it was a normal play.
