Makes me sick to think he'll play next game and Karlsson is out for the season and looking at some major rehab.

Either way this really sucks, EK is one of my top 5 players I watch in the big league.

I doesn't take Carkner or Konopka to pound Matt Cooke.

I have a tough time believing that it was intentional. He was looking the other direction. He would have had to practice that thoroughly .

Anyone who has played hockey understands what its like to go in to the boards off balanced, especially when battling for a puck. I've done it thousands of times in Roller and Ice, that play just seemed unnatural to me. I saw more of that kinda i njury in faceoff circles where guys kick the puck around, lost alot of leather off my old CCM Tacks like that

No, but if the Sens want to get into a slugfest, I am not seeing someone who wants to go with Engelland.

Cooke is actually a pretty decent fighter.

#NHLJets acquire Eric Tangradi (@ETangradi) from Pittsburgh in exchange for 2013 seventh round draft pick
Quote:
NHLDevilsPR ‏@NHLDevilsPR
Lou Lamoriello announces #NJDevils have re-acquired LW Alexei Ponikarovsky from @NHLJets. Devils give Jets 4th rd pick in 2014 and 7th rd pick in 2013.#NHL
So The Jets sign a 32 year old Alexei Ponikarovsky for a one year deal for $1,800,000 in the offseason (who is a free agent that will walk) and he puts up a dissapointing 2 goals, 0 assists, 2 points and 6 PIM in 12 games.
Then they essentially trade him quite abruptly along with their their 7th rounder in 2013 and get New Jerseys 7th rounder instead.
They also get Eric Tangradi (who is a 24 year old UFA with cap hit of $726,000 with 5 GP, 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points & 0 PIM).
And a 4th rounder in 2014 from New Jersey.

Quote:
James Mirtle ‏@mirtle
Why did the Jets sign Ponikarovsky in the first place? Jokinen? Were they going for it? Seems very unclear what plan is in Winnipeg.
To me looks like they are not happy with Ponikarovsky and had no future plans for him, are saving some short term cash, getting a mid-level pick for an expiring asset and getting a bit younger with a lower level player. Not as stupid as it might look imo

You don't have to practice to be a cheap shot artist, it comes natural after awhile, just like anything else.

When I played I was a little out of control at times and probably was looking away from most of my indiscretions.

From what I read the Devils were concentrating on Parise and Brodeur and told Poni to wait a bit and they would get to him. He didn't want to wait and signed in WPG. He has looked like crap in WPG so they dealt him back to the team that originally wanted him.

IMO, it's a great move by WPG. Add a player in Tangradi who should be given a shot and get rid of a higher paid player while adding a 4th rounder. That's a move every team wishes they could make. It's basically a free youngish player + pick.

But slewfooting to me is more of a sweeping movement with the skate and Cooke is almost, stomping down with his skate...which to me makes it seem intentional.

Right. I mean that it looks like he was going to try and slewfoot him, which is why his foot is there, but then stomped on him instead.

McKenzie later added that the fear is that his vision is too impaired for him to play safely. Berard needed multiple surgeries and a contact just to get to 20/400 vision. Manny must not be able to see out of his periphery or something. If it's strictly a distance thing they should be able to correct it.

Now Malhotra is done too, sad day.

Manny had a very respectable career after leaving NY. He should feel proud, played some very good hockey for a dozen years. Hope his vision gets better, I'm sure a job in Hockey awaits.

I think that's a guarantee. With his attitude and brain he could do pretty much anything.

He would be a good face off specialist to teach young centers.

Olympics. Sochi,Russia 2014. The NHL and PA are meeting with the IOC and IIHF. The time change will be ridiculous. 9 hours. The NHL receives no financial benefit. CBC had a reporter Scott Russell in Sochi last week. He interviewed IIHF guy Rene Fassel. The IOC made something like $60M-$80M off the hockey at the Olympics. The NHL didn't get a penny. The NHL has no access to the players at the Olympics. NHL.com can't show any highlights or interviews. The NHL has no access to any video of the Olympics. Unless you saw Crosby's goal against the US live, you haven't seen it. The NHL shuts down the league for 20 days. The players are at risk for injury. The NHL reaps no gains. No more Olympics for the NHL players.

That is a major, major bummer if its the case. Teams should have their best players representing their country. They need to bring back the World Cup of Hockey if that is true. Hockey has an international presence just like Soccer.

The NHL will probably go to Sochi. They have some issues which they want resolved. IMO,its a waste of time. Shutting the league for 20 days when the NHL receives no financial benefit is dumb. The World Cup of Hockey is a NHL/NHLPA event. Its played in the US and Canada. The risk of injury is too great with the NHL receiving no financial benefit. The IOC gets rich off the athletes. Marian Gaborik was injured heading into the 2010 Olympics. He played for Slovakia when he was injured. He returned from the Olympics banged up. The Rangers missed the playoffs. Gaborik is getting paid $7.5M from the Rangers to play for the Rangers. Not to play for his country.

No decision has been reached. Its not expected to be reached this week either.

Quote:
After enduring a long lockout that produced a shortened regular season this year, the NHL is weighing whether it is worth shutting down the game for more than two weeks next season to allow its players to go to Russia for the Olympics.

The time difference will force the games to be played at off hours in North America, and the NHL would like to receive concessions from the IOC that haven't been made before.

In return for sending its players to the Sochi Olympics, the NHL is trying to acquire video, photograph and Web site rights for the games. The IIHF and the IOC retain those exclusive rights now.

The NHL began sending its players to the 1998 Games in Nagano, Japan, and continued through the 2010 Vancouver Games. Even though the NHL got great exposure by having its players take part in an Olympics in North America, disrupting the season does come with a cost.

The stopping of the season, the potential injury risk to players, and no tangible upside for the NHL are all factors that create doubt whether the investment is good for the league.

Oh. I thought 17futurecap meant they were scrapping basketball from the Olympics but it's with regards to professionals playing.

Still, no wrestling but they keep the corrupt sport of boxing, and the always breathtaking, exciting sports of equestrian, synchronized swimming, and badminton.
