It's the exact thing he pulled against Anaheim.
Those penalties are definitely not a good sign. He can't be Steve Ott and expect to stay with Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised if he's scratched against Edmonton and then back in the line up at Calgary.

Roussel is an ideal 4th liner, tons of energy and battles hard for the puck. I have no problem with management sending him down as a probable warning. He's not Steve Ott, he's young and will listen if he wants to remain in the big club.

Except he didn't even adjust his games down in the A, and basically cost his team even a point in Hamilton.

Makes me think he wasn't send down as a punishment. He was sent down to get some playing time over the break.

This looked like a punishment based on Roussel's last NHL game, but it obviously wasn't. This was a perfect time for Reilly Smith to get in a couple games playing top line minutes at ES, on the PP, and on the PK. What a waste ..... Even Oleksiak could have benefited from playing more minutes in every situation.
Rousell only played about 5 minutes in his last game. Oleksiak and Smith might benefit more from the rest and practice with the team than playing in Texas for 2 days, then traveling.

Yeah, if you figure on guys being an important part of your team going forward like R. Smith and Oleksiak are, you don't shuttle them around the continent just to squeeze in a few extra games here and there.

Who knows what's going on with Roussel. Once again Gulutzan says one thing and the team does the other. And yeah, he's basically Steve Ott. Leopards tend not to change their spots.

I really have no clue what's happening anymore.

All I can think of is that Joe didn't intend on Larsen becoming the regular scratch when he called up Oleksiak.... or Oleksiak getting healthy scratched.

Everything about the initial move calling up Oleksiak screamed "This is permanent, this is the next stage of his career", only to be undone after a few games.

He really didn't look that good in his last two games. Sending him back so he knows what he needs to work on, can get 20+ minutes and doesn't feel like if he ****s up he'll be scratched isn't a terrible thing. Waiting 20 more games for him to really mature and allow Larsen to be in the lineup nightly is not a bad thing at all.

Doubt it. He's struggled the past few games (with everyone) and as Piqued said, I don't think the intention was for Larsen to become a #7 D.

There's some speculation Jordie might come back up, that would make sense if they plan on utilizing him as a #7. Unfortunately that means the return of Goose-Larsen which is a god awful pairing.

I'm OK with this move, would rather Larsen be playing and Oleksiak getting #1 D-man minutes in the AHL than one of them being scratched every night. He's got his cup of coffee, he knows what he needs to improve on, and now he can work on it in a better environment. I imagine we'll see him back before the season's over.

I'd hope so. Or just Oleksiak being sent down to reap his 20 minutes a night playing top pair in the AHL.

Who's to say that Gulutzan won't just play both Benn and Rome and still scratch Larsen?

Yeah I'm convinced this team doesn't even have any goals for this season, or next season, or ever.

Didn't they say when they brought Oleksiak up that it was just to have him play a few games and see how he does. I never thought it was permanent.

This sounds like the stupidest thing ever, but these moves are proving it. Every. Freaking. Time.

I don't even know what's going on anymore.

GG fellas, GG.

I feel like there's this constant battle between gully and joe.

Would anyone really mind if gagliardi stepped up and axed both of them? I mean Joe doesn't completely deserve it but its not like he has done a great job with this team either. They have no identity. Last year pesky, this year skill based.

Doesn't he burn a year of his entry level contract if he plays more than just a few games?

Seems like they tested him out and are sending him back. The downside of the move is this d will get a lot smaller and weaker with him gone.

That's ridiculous. I know we like to speculate about this, but at some point it started to become a narrative around here that people are buying into as a fact. There's been zero evidence of this besides roster moves we don't quite understand.

His ELC is already running. AHL or NHL doesn't matter.

This was discussed in another thread. The first year of his ELC is being burned regardless of how many games he plays in the NHL.

No. He's playing on the first year of his contract this season regardless. He's a late birth so he doesn't get the full 2 years to delay a contract. His late birth also made him eligible to play in the AHL this season.
