How did you miss that? It was huge news around the league when it happened. It's from an interview Dean did with one of the Kings blogs (Frozen Royalty?) and I guess the comments were suppose to be off the record but the blog published them as is. Dean even had to issue a public apology to Jack (and his dancing father cough, cough...) Dean came very close to burying Jack and also took a few small jabs at Michigan and Red if i remember right.

Doubt it would matter because next year everything should be different. 7-8 team conferences. LA would probably only play CBJ twice each season. Seems like they have really been working on this so I doubt the NHLPA votes it down again.

Yeah, it's on Gann's site. Here's the article link.

Look at that, my idea about Bernier for Okposo turned up on the trade board. Even better is that at least one Islander fan is thinking the same sort of crazy.

Well, I remember that of course. I assumed the quote was after the trade. I didn't remember the specifics of the quote, but yeah I know Dean was critical of the Michigan hockey program while Johnson was still a member of the Kings.

I simply thought that was a new quote.

After watching Michigan a lot this year, that DL quote could easily apply to current Wolverine Jacob Trouba. He's a ton of fun to watch but Trouba's kinda all over the place.

You must be the only one.

Devils traded a 4th (2012) and a Defenseman the first time

They traded a 4th and 7th this time.

A lot to spend on a player that could have been signed for nothing.

Supposedly they wanted to re-sign him but Parise took too long and Ponyboy signed with Peg.

Winnipeg turns Ponikarovsky into Eric Tangradi and a pick. Seems like decent asset management on their part.

Ponikarovsky was a nice fit on the 3rd line last year. He was part of three different OT goals which is a quick way to endear yourself. Seemed like Ponikarovsky wanted to sign somewhere on July 1st, but the Devils had their hands full with Parise/Brodeur and even Salvador/Hedberg at the same time. And they possibly wanted to keep a LW spot open to give Mattias Tedenby a chance to earn a full time job (insert Price Is Right horns here).

Just to reiterate the point, Ponikarovsky didn't want to wait and the Devils were focused on Parise/Brodeur who signed well after Ponikarovsky did.

Last year we certainly didn't mind giving up the pick (#120), especially since we somehow extracted a 5th rounder (pick #135) out of Calgary for Pierre-Luc Letorneau-Leblond. And it wasn't like the Devils gave up a defenseman with huge potential. Joe Sova was an undrafted NCAA signee who's currently in the ECHL. More than likely we just needed Carolina to take back a contract.

Obviously it looks funny having to re-acquire a player, but it's not that much different than giving up a 4th rounder for some other rental UFA. Plus you are never quite certain how a guy will fit on your team. The coaching staff at least has familiarity with Ponikarovsky.

Notice i didn't say anything about DL's comment's about Michigan being true or false... Yeah, I agree 100% Michigan is a great school but as far as developing talent and players reaching thier full potential they are awful... Michigan gets great players, sure, but they do absolutelty nothing with them and frankly they leave in the same shape they entered the program in...

No interest in Okposo, just think that guy would die in LA's system.

Why not trade Bernier for someone we want in this up coming draft?

How about Darnel Nurse.

Wishful thinking.

There is little chance Bernier warns a firt round pick in this draft. This draft has been called the best in ten years and its loaded with north american goalies better than Bernier when he was drafted. Berniers stock has fallen since then.

I realize the draft is suppose to be great and was hoping Dean and co could get us back into the first round. Really hard to believe John B's worth today is out of the first round.

Well, grade wise the guys supposed to be going from picks 1-18 in round two hold better grades than the final 18 guys in round one last year. If Bernier could fetch a second and a fourth in the offseason I'd say that's a good day.

Before the lockout his value was probably a first, likely closer to Lindback got Nashville. But now with the way the market appears to be and how GMs seem to be hoarding picks. Probably not a first...

I don't think Johnny B would fetch a first.

Something more like Lindback got(that is still a good deal).

Maybe even a little less, 2nd rounder+ 3rd or 4th Rounder, Decent prospect with upside.

Had the lockout not happened Johnny B would have played close to 40 games this year. Teams would have got a real good look at him(value would be up).

Just bad luck.

I sure would like Ryan O on the kings. Maybe Stoll a prospect and a pick?

Stoll, a 2nd and Vey? Toffoli? King?

ROR as a #3 is a sick idea.
